Unleashing the Power of Your ADHD Brain

First off, let's debunk the myth that ADHD is a disorder. It's just a different way of being, like having curly hair or being super tall. I'm all about embracing what makes us unique, and ADHD is no exception!

We're breaking down the three main traits of ADHD: inattention, distractibility, and hyperactivity. But get this—these so-called "problems" can actually be our greatest strengths when we know how to use them.

Think about it: inattention just means we're not into boring stuff. When we're passionate, though, we're like laser-focused superheroes! And distractibility? That's just our curiosity at work, leading us to brilliant ideas and outside-the-box thinking.

And hyperactivity? It's our boundless energy fueling us to go after our dreams with gusto! I'm talking sports, dance, creative projects—anything that lights us up and gets us moving!

So, let's ditch the stigma and embrace our ADHD awesomeness. It's not about fitting into some mold—it's about owning who we are and using our unique traits to make magic happen.

Very nicely done! You have managed to take something with a negative title (in my opinion) and changed it into something beautiful and positive!

Great ep. But I’d just like to say - ADHD is seen as a disorder, not because there is something wrong with us but because our brain differs from what is considered normal or typical. We shouldn’t dispute that we are far more likely to have addictions, be out of work, have eating disorders, etc. When ADHD is managed and/or treated, yes we can excel. But just flat out saying it’s a superpower can be harmful. It definitely wasn’t my super power when I was struggling to hold down a job, when I had PNA and when I didn’t want to be on Earth anymore. It’s still not my super power because I have up and down days. I can be so productive one day, then it’s like my body needs to rest for a week.

I found it refreshing to flip the script & start emphasizing the positives. I loved the Ferrari analogy. Choosing to see the glass half full rather than half empty has changed everything in my life. For instance, I recognized that my desk job had become monotonous and repetitive, so, harnessing my ADHD creativity, I reorganized and restructured files and forms to streamline certain tasks for a better flow. I knew it was working when I ended up with more time and everyone else adopted the same format. And, yes, I’ve been divorced, but I stopped looking at it as failures and started thinking that I’ve been blessed to have had 3 people who thought enough of me to want to spend their lives with me. (I’m in my sixties, so those marriages were fairly long & had ran their course.) Yes, I have challenges in life, but I don’t beat myself up about it anymore. Self-acceptance is good medicine. I’ve rambled on here a bit, but I hope someone will find something worthwhile for their own life. Thanks for the video.

I’ve had this for 50 years, and I have learned how to use it to my advantage. Long term memory is so sharp vs short term. I can recall events in detail 40+ years ago. Short term...I can lock myself in the house cause I can’t find my keys. 😝Focus on what you are interested in, IS way above normal people, so is the recall, and that is a huge advantage for research, etc.

I think ADHD is more likely to be a superpower if a child is born to a family that can help him or her with it. Me with a late diagnosis, it’s pretty hard to come back from that, but I do wish everyone the best of luck.

It’s how I raised my very ADHD & ADD kids. We chose to homeschool rather than medicate. It was fantastic for my ADHD brain as well and has created productive, involved, and enthusiastic citizens of the world.

It is a bad thing because it has more negative than positive, take it from people who ACTUALLY have ADHD.

There are some good points here to focus on the positives attributes of ADHD, especially seeing as as children we are exposed to 10, 000 more negative criticisms exposed to/ received from others as young children under the age of 10, than neurotypical children. So hearing some praise is very welcome.

However it’s harmful to the adhd person to say it is not a disorder because it will exacerbate the majority of people not seeking treatment. It is said to be the most easily treatable mental health condition that exists. The consequences of untreated adhd include 14 year shorter lifespan due to accidents, 50% addiction rate, much higher obesity rate, much higher health problems due to lower execute function to do things like turn up to a doctor appointment, remember to take medication, difficulty cooking healthy meals etc etc.

Some other sad and dangerous stats:

2.5 times more depression
70% or more have another major psychiatric diagnosis
80% comorbid 2nd disorder

Hi I am diagnosed in 2023 with ADHD type C
In the Netherlands we do not use the term of ADD anymore
All is ADHD
But three types
A is with a lot of physical hyperactivity
B the physical is less obvious, but often nail, penbiting, more daydreaming, moving foot and fill in
C is a mixture from A and B
Not all the time very very physical hyperactive, but a lot in the racing thoughts and fantasy as well

Yes ferrari running brains, not a lot of accidents, just small, car touches the rock behind etc but I am a lot lost on the way and in the long run that is exhausting
To fix all after ( coming too late, talk myself out because ashamed etc)

I was diagnosed in my mid 40s Asperger's with ADHD. Of course my next move was to hyper focus on exactly what that meant 😂. But all through the education my take on it was I was only different because I didn't fit it with what everyone had agreed was the normal way of doing things. So my focus became how to get around them and use all my extra talents to the best of my ability. I have to say it was always kinda half assed until I retired and found myself alone for the first time in my life. I gave myself permission to do anything I wanted in any order it presents itself without questions or condemnation. I simplified all outer world tasks with auto pay and Alexa and have been living my best life truly happy and grateful for every moment. I appreciate this video even though I felt it was a bit simplified to an extreme. But that said I agree 💯 are we truly handicapped in any way other than not fitting in? I certainly do not find that now that I have had the opportunity to ignore their rules and run. 😂❤

Well, as an adult with severe ADHD (the 'H' shows up a little differently) - I simply can't use these 'super powers' and stay focused long enough to produce something meaningful. A visionary with absolutely zero ability to execute on any of it.

Just to clear up some confusion, ADD (attention deficit disorder) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) are the same thing. ADD is just an outdated term. They added the H (hyperactivity) becuase they noticed that some individuals are more hyperactive than others, and by including it in the diagnoses of the disorder they were more accurate at finding and diagnosing the disorder. ADHD is not a one size fits all, essentialy it is a disregualtion of executive function. Scientists have also made a discovery that brains with ADHD have a significantly less basal level of dopamine, (the motivation hormone) when compared to neurotypicals. However some people get affected by it differenly, some people are more hyperactive, some are better at hiding it. I do not have any degrees in this field but I am someone who has struggled with ADHD, and have spent the past 3 years deep diving into my condition, listening to neuroscience and psychology lectures and reading scientific research in hopes of finding ways to make it work in this world. I have actually learned a lot about it in a relatively short period of time due to my intense hyperfocus and wanting to learn about it.

Was going to watch, then saw the nonsense that ADHD isn't a disorder in the description and instantly leaving.

Look I'm an ADHDer and I can definitely see plenty of benefits to how my brain works, but I'm not going to lie to myself and pretend that I don't have a disorder and some disabilities.

While following your hyperfocus might seem like good advice for maximizing your potential with ADHD, my experience has shown that it can also push away loved ones like your spouse, kids, parents, or close friends. I’ve pursued my passions intensely, only to realize later that I lost important relationships in the process. This often led to deep disappointment, and I found myself sabotaging my own passionate creations, whether they were business ventures, projects, or art. It’s crucial to find a balance between chasing your goals and maintaining connections with those who matter most

Medication has made all the difference in my life and my son born with ADHD, it gives us focus with our superpower. Stop villainizing medications when they’re the difference between able to accomplish goals and rudderless inattentivity. The only people who should have any say on ADHD medications are people who have been thoroughly diagnosed, otherwise your dim, uneducated purely speculative views are as invalid as a person telling a fish how they should live in the ocean.

I just started meds for the first time ever for adhd in 32 years, it’s a none stimulant, and has so far been amazing. I don’t have a never ending highway of random going through my brain.

It’s not really a super power when I’m supposed to be working and messing things up, cause my brain wants me to put songs together or figure out why there is an orange peel on the ground something. 🤣

I’ve learned to manage a lot without meds but my anxiety was through the roof, depressed, tired when I need the energy, and have the energy when I don’t need it. Never felt like sleep got me anywhere, and would cause me to be unmotivated do to being so burnt out.

If you can manage with out meds that’s amazing, but sometimes you need a little bit of help.
