Budget 2023: Hornsea 3 project 'challenging' after budget, says wind farm developer

The head of the environment for major wind farm developer Orsted has stressed that the chancellor's budget is a "real disappointment" and has made the company's planned Hornsea 3 development off the coast of Norfolk "challenging".

The £8bn wind farm would generate enough electricity to power more than three million UK homes, but the company behind it says the budget has made the next step unclear.

Hornsea 3 project
231 windmills
Supply 3.2 million homes.
(That’s the claim)

Let’s take a look.
Capacity = 2, 852 MW.
Annual = 24, 983, 520 MWh
(100% capacity)
They are nowhere near that efficient.
In 2022 UK windmills ran at 25%.
So 6, 245, 880 MWh

Annual UK home = 2.9 MWh
So 2.15 million homes.

The above assumes a steady generation supply from the windmills.

When there is no wind or too much wind they will supply 0.0 million homes.

Sounds really challenging..
3, 000, 000 homes each paying the £2500 price cap is
£7, 500, 000, 000.
So in the first year that cost of 8 billion has made back 7.5 billion pounds.

Why is the west so slow when it comes to renewables? While the rest of the world is heavily investing in them.

Mmmm power prices doubled and last time I checked the costs of wind stayed the same.
Mmmm so if it was profitable before what is it when prices doubled…..
Smells fishy to me.
Take care M

We have a government that can’t plan beyond the next opinion poll. 🙄

This story is utterly incomprehensible. It never says what the wind developers wanted from the government that they did not get.

Despite humungous subsidies windpower is still not, and never has been, economically viable. 22 times more expensive over the projected life than gas fired electric stations . Just look at the huge losses Siemans and GE wind power businesses have generated instead of the cheap power promised. These companies will be very lucky to survive. The wheels are falling off the renewables bandwagon as the harsh realities of life meet the inflated claims of renewables proponents.
