I remember this like it was yesterday. For all you young people, just imagine Messi going to sign for Real Madrid today. Let that sink in.

Forgot to mention that he was by far the best player on the squad he was team captain and yet he was 3rd highest paid. When he asked for a raise Barca directors just didn't listen as they never thought he could actually leave.. They got what they deserve. With that said Figo was always one to profit from every possible situation, but he always gave his best at every club he played.

You forgot to mention 2 facts:
- Figo, on the last seasons in Barça, was named Captain allways in absence of guardiola or luis enrique, wich was common duo to the age of both.
- Before making a deal with Florentino, FIgo pressured Barça's president to make a new contract. At that time he was payed way fewer than Rivaldo and thought he's importance on the club deserved more credibility by the president. Besides being captain he was the playmaker of Barça at that time.

I suspect Figo revealed the intentions of Florentino to Barça staff to put even more pressure to make a new contract with Barça.
I was also think Barça's president didn't believe Figo would go "crazy mode" and become a traitor to Barça fans(he was the damn captain), so he didn't sign a new contract.

Yes, Luis Figo betrayed Barça fans, but the fault is not only on his shoulders. Barcelona's president is also guilty.

Anyway very nice video, and very nice channel. Subscribed

i had watched an el clasico live when Figo was playing for madrid. Crowd went crazy when he took the corner kick, throwing everything they got at him. Security had to come. The intensity was unreal.

"We hate you now, for we loved you then." Damn. That was honestly a bit sad to see. Imagine seeing your most beloved and best player in your rival's team and winning trophies with them. I don't blame Figo, but Barcelona's fans must have felt pure heartbreak at the time.

This is such a terrific video - amazing story (I'd never actually heard the full story before), told perfectly.

17 years ago, Figo meant the world to me, kept supporting even after he left . But It did hurt.
I know this that Barca fans loved him more than Real's coz he left within a few years while he created a century worth of status in Barcelona.

As a Madrid fan I can tell you that Perez didnt win just because of Figo. The club was almost in bankrupcy at the time due to Lorenzo Sanz's incompetence and that played a bigger role in getting rid off Sanz in favour of Pérez.

This channel as a whole is great but this is my favourite one so far. You explain it really well and the visuals are awesome, as usual. Hope you guys never stop and get the recognition you deserve.

Perez has solidified that Real Madrid will always have the Portuguese connection. When another Portuguese super-star is in the making, why would they not play for Madrid? Figo, CR7 & Pepe all did.
