What is Best Incoterm for Export By Air ? | Explained about INCOTERMS CPT, CIP DDP
In international trade, choosing the right Incoterm is crucial for determining the responsibilities and risks between buyers and sellers during the transportation of goods. When it comes to exporting goods by air, there are several Incoterms to consider, but three stand out as commonly used options: CPT (Carriage Paid To), CIP (Carriage and Insurance Paid To), and DDP (Delivered Duty Paid).
In this video, we will explain these three Incoterms in detail and help you understand which one might be the best choice for your export by air transactions.
1. CPT (Carriage Paid To): With CPT, the seller takes responsibility for the delivery of goods to the agreed-upon airport of departure. The seller is responsible for the costs and risks associated with the transportation of goods to that point. However, once the goods are delivered to the airport, the buyer assumes the responsibility and any further costs and risks.
2. CIP (Carriage and Insurance Paid To): Similar to CPT, CIP also places the responsibility for transportation on the seller. Additionally, the seller is responsible for obtaining insurance coverage against the buyer's risk of loss or damage to the goods during transit. The seller's obligation ends once the goods are delivered to the airport, and the buyer takes over from there.
3. DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): DDP represents the most comprehensive level of responsibility for the seller. In this Incoterm, the seller takes care of all costs, risks, and responsibilities involved in transporting the goods to the buyer's designated location. This includes not only transportation costs but also customs clearance, import duties, and taxes. The buyer has minimal obligations and bears no risks or costs beyond taking delivery of the goods.
It's important to note that each Incoterm has its advantages and considerations. When choosing the best Incoterm for exporting goods by air, factors such as the nature of the goods, the value, and the relationship between the buyer and seller should be taken into account.
