We live in a rural area and our house is setup for propane heating, but it uses so much propane that it is just too expensive to run. We setup a Big Buddy heater in the livingroom, connected to a 30lb propane tank, and a regular sized one in the back hall connected to a 20lb propane tank. These two heaters keep the house quite warm at a fraction of the cost of the built-in heater. We have carbon monoxide monitors in both locations (ones which actually show the carbon monoxide levels), and in ten years of doing this, we have never had a problem or seen any CO readings.

Short, direct, informarive, accurate! Nice vid and I never leave comments unless I'm impressed with simplicity.

After years of using one of these indoors I was surprised to open the door and be hit with strong propane smell. The heater's regulator failed due to that residue you mentioned (I think). Now I use the filter. Another thing I learned is that if you open the 20LB tank valve to fast it can trip the regulator and you won't get much gas. It won't stay lit. Then you have to unhook everything and start over.

I've been using the Big Buddy Heater for over 3 years in my RV 24/7 it still works fine and I have never had an issue with it

Supposedly the propane hose offered by Mr. Heater is made to not require the Filter, because the material in the hose does not produce an kind of matter that can effect the Mr. Heater.

Under high pressure The hose leaks oil that gets into the heater Along with the propane which causes The heater to Stop Working, And that's why you are required to use filter, You can avoid all that by using body heater certified hose.

Enjoyed the review. You may want to get a small brush like a 1” paint brush to brush the soap on, especially if you can’t get to it like you are doing with your hand. My Dad was a propane guy for 25 years, so grew up with installing and testing propane. Excellent review and FYI, (THE VIDEO DIDN’T SUCK, LOL)

I spray Windex to check for leaks. Much more convenient.

I use my big buddy heater indoors with a 20 # propane tank. The Amish do it for electric lamps!

I ran a Buddy and Big Buddy for about 5 years on an indoor 20 pound tank without problem. I turned off my tank valve while still running to de-pressurize the hose, then turn off the heater valve.

I had two of the Big Buddy heaters and they were hooked up to 20lb. tanks and they worked fine for two winters as supplement heat but part way through the third season they both stopped working, about two weeks apart. I was told that because I didn't use a filter they somehow clogged up and were ruined so I ended up throwing them away. They were around $60 apiece at the time. Is there a way to unclog them if I get another one and the same thing happens? Should I have thrown them away? Was there a way to unclog them? I would use a filter next time. Thanks for your video.

I use one in my cabin and in a rv as well as tent camping. No problems for over 10 years. Always take it in the truck. Love it.

Is it safe to use a 20lb propane tank indoors?

most houses have enough leakage that a buddy won't be a problem

Great video and thank you for it! I am currently using an indoor propane heater for my main means of heat for a very short period of time and today was the first day I hooked it up to a 20 pound propane tank after just using those little green propane heater tanks. I am so grateful because I could not connect the hose to the propane tank to save my life until I watched your video and your recommendation for soapy bubbles made me feel like I was actually able to double check my work. Thank you so much I am so grateful for your video.

Great video, thank you. I bought this for emergency use if power goes out. I'm cautious about using heaters inside but buying the carbon monoxide detector is a fantastic idea to give me peace of my mind.

I just bought the 18, 000 BTU big buddy heater for my garage. When I ran it on low or medium I had no problems, but when I switched it too high my carbon monoxide detector went off in the garage. The heater didn't automatically shut off either. I like the heater but it's somewhat concerning.

I highly highly recommend not using a rubber hose because I literally seen what can happen. Now there's no hose that you can get that won't coil up like that, but there is something you can do about it should the worst happen for some odd reason it coils up and gets in front of that heater a stainless steel one will not be anywhere near susceptible to melting

I think it is the tank that they say is not safe to use inside in case it fails or something, not the heater. At least that is how I have heard it. Thanks for showing us how to set it up.
