Personally I've always been able to moderate my vices, I never understood how you could give your life away to things like alcohol until my friends (and some family members) started doing it. I could stop for weeks and be fine, but once we were 21, they were all always at the bar getting shitfaced. It took a lot of time for me to see that they had a severe problem, and even more to convince them to stop. They're mostly sober now, but I can still drink/smoke/whatever without feeling addicted (thank God). However, since then it's been front-of-mind when I indulge to be mindful and to never lose myself in the moment or overdo it. Fun is fun, but stupid is just stupid.
