PHASER
A phaser is an electronic sound processor used to filter a signal by creating a series of peaks and troughs in the frequency spectrum. The position of the peaks and troughs of the waveform being affected is typically modulated so that they vary over time, creating a sweeping effect. For this purpose, phasers usually include a low-frequency oscillator.

The definition of phaser typically excludes such devices where the all-pass section is a delay line; such a device is called a flanger.[1] Using a delay line creates an unlimited series of equally spaced notches and peaks. It is possible to cascade a delay line with another type of all-pass filter.[2] This combines the unlimited number of notches from the flanger with the uneven spacing of the phaser.Phasing is a popular effect for electric guitar. The term was often used to refer to the original tape flanging effect heard on many psychedelic records of the late 1960s, notably "Itchycoo Park" (1967) by the Small Faces.[3] In 1968, Shin-ei's Uni-Vibe effects pedal, designed by audio engineer Fumio Mieda, incorporated phase shift and chorus effects, soon becoming favorite effects of guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Robin Trower.[4] By the early 1970s, phasing was available as a portable guitar effect, one of the most notable early examples being the MXR Phase 90.[5] From 1974, Steve Hackett in the Selling England by the Pound (1973) studio album and tour used this one for his Les Pauls, and from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway (1974) album and tour used the "phase filter" section in his EMS Synthi Hi-Fli. In the late 1970s, Brian May used large amounts of phasing, in such songs as "Sheer Heart Attack".[6] In the late 1970s and 1980s, Eddie Van Halen, for instance, often used the MXR Phase 90 as part of his signal chain,[7] for example in the instrumental "Eruption" and on the song "Atomic Punk".[citation needed]

Keyboard players also used phasing: in the 1970s, keyboard instruments like the Fender Rhodes electric piano, the Eminent 310 electronic organ, and the Clavinet were commonly treated with a phaser, especially in avant-garde jazz. Bill Evans, for instance, used a Maestro phaser on Intuition (1974).[8] The phaser is also used to "sweeten" their sounds. Examples can be heard in Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are", Styx's "Babe", and Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygène (1976) on which he used an EHX Small Stone phaser extensively. Tony Banks (Genesis) used an MXR Phase 100 on his RMI 368x Electra piano from 1974 (later he will insert this effect, as well as the fuzzbox, into the Electra's panel); from late 1977 he will also use the phaser (with a Boss CE-1 too) on his Hammond organ, for replacing the Leslie's rotating effect. Daft Punk helped to re-popularize the effect in the 21st century, utilizing it on a number of tracks on their Discovery album in 2001. Richard Tee also used a phase shifter hooked up to his Fender Rhodes.[citation needed]

FLANGER
Flanging /ˈflændʒɪŋ/ is an audio effect produced by mixing two identical signals together, one signal delayed by a small and gradually changing period, usually smaller than 20 milliseconds. This produces a swept comb filter effect: peaks and notches are produced in the resulting frequency spectrum, related to each other in a linear harmonic series. Varying the time delay causes these to sweep up and down the frequency spectrum. A flanger is an effects unit that creates this effect.

Man I was thinking of replacing my DOD Flanger with an MXR Phaser but I dont know.

I feel the flanger has more depth but the phaser really hits straight on.

Maybe I need a phaser anyways and can stack them who knows lol

That phase 90 has a bad volume boost. However it would have been nice to make a comparison between the mxr micro flanger and the mooer elec lady.

If I own a flanger, vibrato and envelope filter do I need a phaser or can I get the same sound via a combination of those mentioned?

Useless. Can’t even see which pedal does what.
