Japan's incoming PM Ishiba announces snap October election
Показать описание
Japan's next general election is set to take place a year early. Incoming prime minister Shigeru Ishiba has said he would call for snap polls on 27 Oct. Next month's vote will decide which party controls the Lower House. The Upper House will continue its term until July 2025 as it cannot be dissolved. Both houses are controlled by the ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner Komeito. Mr Ishiba has picked several names for his upcoming cabinet team, who will lead the LDP into the election. The newly elected leader is leaning on veterans in a bid to unite a deeply divided party. Michiyo Ishida reports.
