Weber forgot to mention that the battery compartment initially must be opened by removing the small Phillips head screw and removing the white paper tag and reinstalling the red battery cover before the iGrill mini will turn on. So

Mine keeps turning off .

Have to re pair a dozen times per roast ....any fix ? Or is it just a useless, expensive gimmick?

Mine stopped recording properly lest in less than1.5 years. I went back to thermometer at a fraction of the cost. I would not recommend these .
