The 5 East African Community Heads Of State have signed the Regional Monetary Union Protocal, whose full implementation will lead to a common currency that will be used in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda And Burundi. The leaders spent more than 6 hours behind closed doors, trying to iron out the issues that have threatened to tear the regional block apart, following claims by Tanzania and Burundi that they were being sidelined in what was being dubbed 'the coalition of the willing'. And as Francis Gachuri reports, President Uhuru Kenyatta has taken over the leadership of the East African Community, in what pundits say has everything to do with raising his bargaining power in the quest to seek excusal from attending trial sessions at the international criminal court in The Hague.
