I hate that the idea that characters need to be perfect from the jump has gotten so widespread. :( Stories can't just be a string of events, they need to prompt growth!

Damn that’s actually a w for the feminists for that take at the end

So… the ACTOR was called out for a decision made by the WRITERS….

But Sokka's sexism was part of a story arc for his character development. He was humbled by female warriors and that humility led him to ask to learn from them and helped him become a stronger fighter in the end.

I've seen the reboot. Sokka is more just a macho jerk rather than having a focus on sexism, and he still goes through his arc.

Holy shit I’m actually sitting at the feminist. Those to be fair he was never sexist. In his culture, the men are the warriors. The women are the healers. He was left with the responsibility of protecting the women and the children. He had never met a female warrior before Kiyoshi island.

I don’t think it’s his fault that Netflix is trying to be woke

That last picture made him look like the son of Sam Winchester😂

i wish they kept it bc its super integral to his entire growth arc. it’s literally what plenty young men have struggled with and still do. not to mention it also takes away from katara’s journey as a young woman beside it all.

Just another example of unnecessary wokeness ruining our favorite shows from our childhood. Saka made fun of women while his sister, toph, and Aing saved him countless of times.

why is this the actors fault? he didn't write the character, he just played it

My fingers are also crossed tightly but honestly it’s ridiculous that this was cut, it’s a MASSIVE part of his character all the way to end when he’s rescued by both Toph and Suki, who are both women.

Honestly the scenes Sokka gets with Katara and Suki were incredible and definitely took advantage of the time they saved from him being shocked that women could fight. If you think this was integral to Sokka’s character you did not pay attention to his arc

I think there’s so much to Sokka that the essence of his character will live on.

They realise this isn't something a lot of people are pushing for it's just a few trolls and angry kids and then the media capitalising on it??

Ye heavily agree plus it was fun when Katara made fun of him because of it.

Sokka without sexism is like the fucking avatar with no bending abilities, just some guy 😭

Netflix did not do this to be PC that is insanely simple and untrue. They did this because they had to condense a 20 episode animated series into 8 episodes. Netflix wrongly assumed that a sibling rivalry would make up for gutting the sexism. This was a mistake. But certainly not "PC" because his arc was the definitive mark of becoming "PC".

This is the internet and there is defiantly a petition to get his character rewritten.

Every time they talk about the new series.... my expectations get lower amd lower.

Sexism is bad, but that was a massive arc for sokka and in the end he teams up with Suki and Toph to take down the airships.

Ive heard in interviews that Aang wont attempt to shirk his duty as the Avatar by going on crazy adventures and instead has a "vision" of the comet and says ok we have to get this done.

Im not against having azula introduced earlier in the series than in the show, as long as its done well.
