Scott: Where you there?
Historian: Nope, but in contrast to you I spend my life studying and researching it so maybe you should listen to me.

If anyone wants to watch a Napoleon movie that actually tries to stay true to what happened in reality.
Watch Waterloo, its a beautiful and breathtaking film.
It will probably be better than this.

No wonder the knowledge of history is so low in the UK...

Mr. Scott makes very entertaining films but his answer to this serious question is at best sarcastic and trite, and at worst utterly irresponsible. The correct answer is "Nothing you are about to see in my movie should be construed as an accurate portrayal of any person, place, or event. This movie is pure entertainment and any similarity to actual history beyond the names of some of the characters is accidental." In fact, the world would be a better place if this disclaimer played on screen before any movie that purports to be "based upon actual events". One of the reasons the world is getting stupider is we have people watching films like Gladiator and The DaVinci Code and believing that they are learning history. There once was a French General named Napoleon. If you want to be entertained, go see Mr. Scott's movie of the same name. If you want to actually LEARN about him, find a well sourced and researched biography and read it.

It's hard to believe you can reach 85 and have no idea of what history is.

It is funny that sony posted this as if it were good advertisement for the movie.

There are some gray areas about Napoleon's life, but we know for certain some things, like he never shot the fucking pyramids with cannons lol

I like Dan Snow, but his jocular attitude to Ridley's ridiculous statement baffles me.

I don't know.. How about dozens of time appropriate cross sources? What a smug and pretentious response. L take.

Mr Scott is undermining History itself with this glib utterance. It’s a shame, for History and historicity is now more important than ever.

Things that are well documented to be true and have happened, he picked to ignore or outright changed. The movie was terrible and an insult to Napoleon.

I'd recommend Napoleon mini series from 2002. WAY better.

This is what my niece says when she refuses to study, and she is twelve.

So after watching it I think it should be called: Josephine +Napoleon

If you make a historical film you have an obligation to be faithful to history, otherwise people will start using this film as the truth about the story of Napoleon (not that everything in the film is a lie), but let's be 100% faithful to history with that ok

The Duellists was 10x better than Napoleon 😂

"Where you there?" is a purely childish remark. In that case, history and historians have no value or credibility because none of them lived through the period.
That's how we end up with "Cleopatra was black because my grandmother told me so".
