How Namma Yatri Ended Ola and Uber's Dominance?

The video discusses the challenges faced by drivers working for cab-hailing services like Ola and Uber in India, particularly regarding commissions and delayed payments. It talks about a new business model introduced by Namma Yatri, a part of the government-led ONDC, aimed at addressing these issues. This model eliminates commissions and instead charges drivers a fixed subscription fee, offering them more control over their earnings and immediate payment from customers. Since its launch, this model has gained significant traction, with over 3 lakh drivers joining Namma Yatri, leading to its expansion into other cities.

The success of Namma Yatri's zero-commission model has put pressure on traditional players like Ola and Uber to adopt similar strategies. Rapido, another cab-hailing service, was the first to adopt this model, prompting Ola and Uber to follow suit to avoid losing drivers to competitors. This shift signifies a significant disruption in the cab-hailing industry, challenging the dominance of Ola and Uber and potentially reshaping the market dynamics.

Furthermore, Namma Yatri has announced plans to enter the cab-hailing business in Bengaluru, further intensifying competition in the sector. This move poses a significant threat to Ola and Uber, which have established themselves over the years. Ola, in particular, is gearing up for an IPO, adding more pressure on the company to adapt to changing market trends.

namma yatri doesnt have any check on the drivers and there is no customer support on it. Rapido also has a much much better support than it. most prefer to go with uber even if its slightly more expensive due to the safety aspect especially late night

As a Kannadigga, I hate the rickshaw drivers. Idc what model you bring, I'll either take the BMTC or a cab!
These drivers still behave like hooligans!

By solving drivers’ concerns, Namma Yatri has solved a critical problem for the customers - availability. In Bangalore, the chances of you getting a ride on Namma Yatri is higher than Ola/Uber. It’s a win-win situation. That’s what you call disruption!

2-3 weeks is just not true. Most of the drivers get payments within a day at least on Uber except Friday-Sunday for which the transaction happens on Monday

October 2021: I booked a cab from Mumbai airport to Pune by Ola app. Simultaneously 2 cabs got booked automatically. Both drivers started calling me. When I cancelled one cab, the driver called and started abusing me. Ola put a cancellation fee of ₹150 for that particular cab. When i complained on customer care, they didn't agree to wave off cancellation charge or to take action the abusive driver. I uninstalled the app after going home and paying to the driver whose cab i took. After around 1.5 year I got a mail from Ola that my all previous cancellation charges have been waved off and I should restart using Ola. But I didn't. I'm determined that I'd never use Ola services ever again.

I tried to use it once and the ride is as expensive as other platforms. At least there is customer support and insurance in other platforms.

Whats the point of this app when auto's wont accept the ride anyway. I would prefer uber over this because of customer service.

Been trying to book auto through namma yatri since last 1 week in Bengaluru, never got success. Had to keep trying ola, uber and rapido, hoping to get chosen by someone every day. None of the driver on any platform will accept the booking initially letting me create multiple request thereby creating a fake surge in demand and increasing the price. Only after the price goes up by 20-30% they will start accepting the rides. And this is the struggle I face every day to reach office

Some startup should try the same model but with food delivery.

Yatri Sathi in Kolkata has also done the same but for cabs, both are built on ONDC by same company Juspay and respective state governments. Yatri sathi already has 26 lakh trips since it's inception in July last year. You can do a video on Yatri Sathi too, great initiative.

Only a person who's never travelled in Bengaluru will say all this. Namma Yaatri is still far behind.

The business model looks good for the driver and customer. But I don't see how the company will generate shareholders' wealth because I guess it'll not be making a profit. If I'm not mistaken, Uber recently turned profitable but with this subscription model I don't see any profits coming.
