The “Victorian” Era contained some of the most dazzling and darkest moments of English history, but who was the monarch behind the glorious name? Queen Victoria led a nation for longer than anyone before her—and it was a reign full of personal scandal, tragedy, and heartache.

I recall a story that happened while on one of her forced tours as princess, in the city of Bath. Someone in the crowd made fun of her appearance, and she was so insulted that she never visited the city ever again. Bath spent decades trying to lure her back, which is why there are so many statues to her and several roads named after her: each was an attempt to attract Victoria's attention to come and do the dedication. That woman could seriously hold a grudge.

I know this is unrelated, but some of the music in the background was something that I performed almost 40 years ago when I was back in high school. It’s called English Folk Song Suite by Vaughn Williams. I believe it’s being performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. A beautiful piece to play.

I’ve watched so many of these videos and can I just say that whoever is narrating this video, is my favorite. I’ve noticed I enjoy listening to the videos this person narrates more than any of the other videos. He speaks very clearly and annunciates words beautifully.

The narration is wonderful: not only is there the treat to the ear of Real cadence of speech, but also there are the humorous, flippant asides tossed at various points. Thank you!

Albert didn't propose because you can't propose to the Queen 😅 not because Queen Victoria was so modern.

Brilliantly written, narrated, and edited!!! And your use of clips from my favorite comedy series ever, Black Adder, explains your well-timed dry wit in all your videos. Well done presentation on ol' Vickie, as are all your videos!

Very good show, thanks! I love that Queen Victoria paid homage not only to Prince Albert but also to John Brown when she was buried. Good heavens, why shouldn't she have had a relationship with him so long after her husband died? Even though she didn't want to make that public, I say good for her!

Victoria's choice of white dress was not the only wedding influence from her family ... the now traditional wedding "marches" - Wagner's 'Bridal March' and Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March' were first used in Queen Vic's daughter's wedding.

she had some skills in drawing... imagine an alternate universe where she didn't become a queen, but a painter...
