Definitely agree. The endorphins make us want to move onto the next goal right away without stopping to realize and assess what we’ve accomplished. Thanks for the reminder to live in the moment and savor the moment.

Running is so joyful without having to go fast, just enjoying the activity should be enough of an accomplishment.

Yes....enjoy the journey. I'm 60 and the older I get the more I feel privileged to be able to run...I still have goals....but health and happiness are my wins ❤

I 100% agree, I have been fixated on running a 30 minute 5K, 1hr 10K and 2hr half marathon- I achieved the first 2 with time to spare, and have ran multiple half marathons in less than that 2:05 only to feel totally disappointed that I couldn’t find that extra 5 mins. This resulted in me pushing too hard in one, and blowing up and then causing injury. Today was my first run in 3 months and I ran walked. i have decided that I will achieve my goal- but only when the time is right. I am 63 so I have about 20years to achieve my target. important video- thank you Jess & RC

Enjoy the process and appreciate that you have the privilege of running.

Having fun was the original goal. Don't forget that.

I think that the obsession with pbs is a road to failure if it takes over, ultimately it's a dead end as everybody has an ultimate... I absolutely get that we love to do our best but over the years I have seen so much of what Jess describes so beautifully... I am now at the point where my old pbs are not realistic, my body is much older and I don't have that urge to go faster.. It is a fine line between doing our best and losing sight of what running really is, most of us are not and will not be elite.. This is such an honest, healthy vlog, thank you Jess x

I absolutely 100% agree with this, like I'll get a pb and then literally straight away I'd be saying right next time I want to do it quicker. Now what I do instead I congratulate myself on my pb, and I give my self 6 weeks where i must not pressure myself on doing more but just enjoy my achievement and enjoy running without thinking about times. For example i just FINALLY cracked sub 25 5k so now instead of pressuring myself to beat it next week, I've got some fun things to do instead like doing a new tougher parkrun, doing a park run starting at the back and seeing how many people I can pass, another week ill volunteer to be a pacer etc.

Your running journey is a marathon, not a sprint.
Better analogy... Running improvement comes along like zone 2 training. You never feel like you're doing enough and the improvements are slow, but you are constantly improving - constantly getting better by tiny increments, but if you zoom out and look at how much you've improved year to year it's amazing to see how far you've come!

Not just in running, I am doing my PhD and this is so so true. It's really sad, thank you for bringing this up! ❤

Definitely. Got a 1 minute pb unexpectedly in 10k and within 1 minute of finishing I was already disappointed that I was 10 seconds from sub 37. Guess that’s the thing that keeps us running

That's racing, so many variables not all we can control. Best to take the lessons, what you could do better next time and try to put it into practice and move on, don't let one disappointment take over for long.
A pb is a win any day of the week, take the positive, you're faster than you have ever been, you believe there's more to come so tweak plan and go again, now or next week or whenever.
Is this the 4th video on this now?

Yeah I’ve felt this before but in the 800
I ran 2:02 and ran a great race but still disappointed cause my goal was to break 2
Great video!

It’s so relatable Jess. From Couch to 5k, there’s always been something bigger to come after the latest training block that I genuinely don’t feel like I’ve achieved anything. Scary to look back at a year ago when I was starting to run and now I’m training for the Great North Run. Maybe one day I’ll be happy with my journey!!!

Recently ran a half marathon, I'd a headache & it was roasting hot on the day, physically and mentally a tough race. It was a massive achievement to push through these struggles & I should have been happy with myself, but I really just wasn't 😢

I ran a half marathon in may. I got a PB but i missed out on my time goal that I felt was achievable. The weather conditions were brutal which slowed me down, but coming back after months of injury i was hoping to prove to myself i came back a faster runner

This is me 100% lol. I need to enjoy PB's more and wait for the ultimate goal

Yep feeling the same now after a recent 5k PB, just finished and then raced again within 2 days and that killed me off for weeks! Now just enjoying the experience now 👌

Yeah, I see what you mean. I just ran an after 50 year old 5k pb of 22:46. I was sort of happy with that, but that is not my overall goal. So, even though I got my goal time for that race, I can’t be satisfied. It’s on to the next training block, and the goal for the next race, sub 22:00 or at least a low 22:00. Then it will be on for the next one. It’s a never ending cycle, but that’s what we sighed up for. It’s part of the journey, and the fun.

Trying so hard for a sub 46 10k. Today I finished 46:21. It is frustrating sometimes. 😅

I always celebrate my PBs vigorously! You have to! The only time I've felt a bit disappointed after getting a PB was when I got a huge 51 min PB at a marathon, but I didn't go sub-4.
