Networking can seem so hard -- but not if you have the right advice. Try taking advantage of weak ties; you never know what friend of a friend of a friend can aid you in your dreams. Lisa Green Chau outlines how being proactive and always saying yes can lead to future opportunities.

I mean how would you even contact him?

"Hey Mr. Umpire man, I'm your teammate's coworker's cousin's husband's peer's friend's niece."

I think you need to do more about networking. Just because you found someone who knows someone who knows someone doesn't mean that they're going to want to give you the job. They may hear that you have this connection and then say "so?"

Virtual high-five to the animator. Wonderfully done.

this really worries me, because I realise how important this sort of thing is, but I just think regarding human relationships as a network to help your carrier is a bit dehumanizing.. going to 'meetings' because never know what you might 'get out of them' etc.

to everyone who critisises the video of not having full detail and cautions of the process

appreciate that the creator of the video had the decency to assume you were smart enough to have that information, it is a form of respect, not a mistake

and the video is talking about the power of local interactions in a network, making the network grow, NOT the network itself

You'd be surprised how important this is in your career regarding ANYTHING.

There should be a follow up for this video. It is good that the video shows you what you need to do when you meet people, but how do you get there in a conversation. How to manage your conversation so that the person you are meeting will remember you is also important. What topics should I talk? How do I create topics? When is a good time to digress or not?

Be thankful of the people that actually talked to you, and helped do all those things, not a fictional person up in the clouds. Believe whatever you want, have faith in whatever you want, if that makes you happy, go for it. But give credit where credit is due.

Como bien se indica en el video toda conversación es una oportunidad y es importante decir SI a las invitaciones para fortalecer nuestro networking.

Point 1 is interesting, I agree with it but it's contrasting with the traditional meeting management theory. thanks for sharing. I Would also add rule number 4: never stop listening.

This is just one of many examples, i cant network too shy for it i dont like starting convos with new ppl BUT its amazing cuz i just ask God and He gets ppl to walk up to me be friend me and even address things which i need addressed but am to nervous to ask about. One example of how God is crazy good/awesome. ESPECIALLY when i to network cuz i needed a ministry to join/place to stay long term, cuz He called me to Nicaragua, to be a missionary. I had no contacts dont speak spanish

Well you do now. Take comfort in knowing that there's at least one person out there who doesn't know you, but thinks you're awesome anyway.

because this is easier.

Also, if you are good at a job you get through your friend, then I do not see the problem. The reason this is normally looked down upon is because that is usually not the case.
