I've seen some fans throwing fits over the Leafs sticking with the 'Core-4, ' but let's break it down. Right now, we've got Mitch Marner—who, at worst, will maintain his top-5 NHL points-per-60 production, and at best, has something to prove. Even before his full no-trade clause kicked in, there was no guarantee the Leafs could win a trade involving him. Chances are, whatever they could get now wouldn’t be much better than what they can get as a UFA in 2025 if Marner doesn’t re-sign.

Is Marner bad in the playoffs? Think the issue is as a smaller offensive forward, he going to struggle against physical teams like Boston, Tampa Bay, and Florida. Look at Florida—they don't just rough up a player like Marner; they roughed up the Oilers out of a Cup run too. There are plenty of playoff teams Toronto hasn’t faced where Marner could have excelled. Some of the greatest players in the Hockey Hall of Fame had glaring weaknesses, but they had teammates who compensated for those deficiencies. Marner is an elite playmaker who get paired with top-tier goal scorers, but against physical teams, Toronto needs more than just Matthews who you really don't want to see chucking them.

If Marner had someone like prime Wendel Clark on his line, the impact in the playoffs would be a lot different. When Boston or any team tries to hit Marner, Toronto needs a player who will make the opposition pay for it—a player who will ask, "Who’s next?" and back it up.

There are still stubborn fans suddenly forgotten Mitch performance in the last few playoffs, once they fail on the playoffs I can’t imagine Ho w they can trade him or sign him

Imagine if every player on the leafs committed to salraries no larger than 9 million to stay competitive. Think about it. Tavares 2mil
Matthews 4mil
Marner 2mil pre extension
Nylander 2mil
Thats 10 million. Imagine the possibilities. Oh what a pipe dream

Let him walk as UFA then use the $$$ to get a better player

No, the time to trade Marner was last season, they didn't, so now its time to extend him and find a way to build the team with him in the lineup. He's still a really good player and maybe Berube figures out how to get him to perform later in a series

If they get 1st and second with the Detroit trade, I would do it. U can flip the 1st for another top 4 heavy defenceman and slide oel to ur 3rd pair. Also u can trade the 2nd for top 9 forwards. Lucas would be great now and in the future with cowen and mittan

Come on the Leafs have no intention or guts to trade Mitch they will end up losing Mitch because he will walk after this season

Too much emphasis on Marner. Is he a little over paid? YES! but it was an agreement made by the T.M.L. organization. Do I blame him for taking the contract he got? NO! not at all. Just as I don't blame Marner for all the mishaps during the playoffs. Some pod members (I won't mention names) are so adamant about their view, that just they won't put it to rest. They apparently know more about hockey than those who are involved. I'm almost certain that Brad Treliving believes that Marner brings a lot to the table and I think he is right. I'm not trying to spoon feed those who read this. It's just my opinion ...

There is no way Winnipeg trades that much for a 2 year Necas rental.

Marner for Raymond, Bergrend, Wallinder and a first and you get rid of that damn Marner contract and the angst over signing him. Take it and run.
Wallinder is Detroits 8th best prospect so probably makes the Leafs defense better. Berggren is a point a game AHL player, probably instantly becomes one of the leafs best offensive prospects and he is successful at the AHL level.
But heck if you want get Joe Veleno instead. I like Berggren cause he's got more upside. We sort of have seen what Veleno is likely to be.
And yes insist on a first.
Get that 10.9$ million off the books. Sign Raymond for 4 years at $6.5. See if they will take Reaves as part of this deal.
Don't have to worry about signing Marner again.
This version of the Leafs Can't win a cup.

The new version with a little more flexiblity and if they can sign Tavares at $4 can hopefully find that first pair defender they are missing. And then maybe they challenge a little for a cup.
But this version can't win. Try to create a different version.

No way they trade away 100 pts and a chance at a playoff spot

If you move Marner and only him, you lose.

If you trade Maner and one of JT or Reilly and a mix of Liljegren, Robertson, Jarnkrok etc

In multiple trades, you can reshape the cap structure instead of just loosing 1 trade to recover some cap space

😂 Marner is going to refuse to sign an extension and refuse a trade. Then he'll walk for nothing at the end of the season. Treeliving 101
