Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Control Explained segment of Gaming University. Upon entering the Maintenance Sector of the Oldest House, Jesse is tasked with repairing the Coolant Pumps and Energy Converters of the NSC. According to Ahti, without these repairs the entire Power Plant would blow. However, the details about how the NSC generates power is classified.

Clues about the NSC's nature are littered throughout the Oldest House and even different Thresholds. In this video, we will piece together the bread crumbs in order to answer the question. What is the NSC?

Please feel free to have free discussion in the comments section below.

Enjoy!

I absolutely love the detail of the NSC 01 being in the Quarry, I honestly missed it the first time, it's crazy.

My man northmoor is too angry to die, so instead he is used as a power source for the bureau
Talk about dedication and work ethics

"Northmoor... an explosion of a man." ~ Director Trench.
Until I scaled the top of the NSC, I took this to mean the guy had a temper... O.O nope, he's literally an explosion of a man. Wild.

I remember while playing and jumping up and finding the monitors and "Northmoor Sarcophagus Container" vividly painted that my jaw dropped. I didn't pick up on Ahti's comments though, but later I found the document. Control has so many stuff like this that builds up the lore and the universe in such a rich way, high above most games out there, I feel - it's amazing. And your videos helped a lot in understanding many elements of it, especially the more complex ones! Another excellent video! Thanks for all the work!

"Well.., the director's primary job is keep the lights on." - Trench... that was too cold..

Yay. The Reactor Room.

Hopefully we will see a sequel and have Jessie duke it out with a living nuclear explosion, which is what Northmoor probably is now

As usual Trench fails to see the long term effects of his actions. Having a rogue element with the power of Northmoor deep within the FBC is a disaster waiting to happen several times worse then the surprises left hanging around the Investigations Sector. The risks far outweigh any rewards the FBC gain by a more subtle energy Bill.

My only conclusion is that Trench physically was not able to “kill” Northmoor in the traditional sense. Like it’s been stated many times he wasn’t truly human anymore

It was so satisfying playing thru the game and finally having the moment of "wait a minute...is that fuckin Northmoor in there?!"

Man I just love the world and lore in control, such a great game, there’s so much stuff I wanna know, so many secrets and mysteries! Like they could make an anime series based on the old directors like Ash, Northmoor and Trench, would be cool but at the same time I think it’s best to leave them unanswered as it’s more interesting and special that way

Oh man I am kicking myself for not noticing that the original NSC had teleported to the formation.
I love the fact you can always discover more details when it comes to the world building and lore of Control. It has such depth.

I made a video on the NSC last month and found out about this video after someone mentioned in my comments.
It is awesome to see someone else’s interpretation of the same subject. Whilst I think we mostly covered the same ideas/points it is fascinating to see the differences.
A point that I bright up in my video is about the fact the NSC acronym is possibly a reference to Chernobyl’s New Safe Confinement and that possibly the energy produced by Northmoor is nuclear.
If your interested, I’d suggest taking a look at it.

Keep up the great content!

Great job, as always.
I literally just started replaying Control the other day.
Can't get enough of the story.
Really hope they release a sequel.

This is one piece of the lore that i found by myself and is seriously my favorite one. it is so messed up in so many ways, i love it. Story telling through the environment at it's best

The NSC may as well be a solar furnace.

All hints to a person which may have had attached onto their person a lot of unknown items, this then changed the state of human to something else.

The strongest known power is the sun as a thermal source which we, as humans, can perceive, yet the 'truest' and strongest form of power is inconceivable.

The most underrated hidden gem. Thanks for another video!

I get the feeling, mostly from the fact that the NSC's upper Terminal has a distinct warning for movement within the NSC that during "Normal" operation Northmoor is asleep, or more likely Unconscious, that part of keeping Northmoor "cool" is to keep him calm, Sedated.

This also ties into Jesse's bonding with Polaris protecting her from much of the negative Para-natural, as Jesse is recorded with much greater effect from Objects of Power then even Northmoor pre- Sarcophagus, as well as Altered Items (not considered bind-able) without the same abnormalities associated with Northmoor's Transformation.

Under "Normal" conditions, I doubt Northmoor is in any state fit to plan, to rage, or even think within the NSC... but it also says something that the NSC can keep a Resonance Based Lifeform out of Northmoor, especially since unless something else was exploding due to overload the only thing that could be making vibrations large enough to shake the Maintenance Sector after Jesse's repaired the coolant pumps but before repairing the converters is Northmoor, which suggests the NSC doesn't absorb vibrations.

Everytime I pick up control again for a new playthrough you pop out a new video and I couldn't be happier 😁

Completely missed the wreckage of NSC-01 when I played. That's so cool. It's interesting that the overuse/accumulation of OOP's can have such an effect on a human. I'm also curious how they managed to get Northmoor from NSC-01 into NSC-02 or how quickly they built it in response to the disappearance.
