Whom Shall I Fear?

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?  The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?" ~ Psalm 27:1

For many people, the one you fear most may be YOURSELF... You might be thinking: "What a mess I've made of myself"... "I'll never amount to anything"... "I'll never be worthy"... "No one could ever love me"... "How can God forgive me for this?". . . "Is God even aware that I'm drowning?"

Think about this:
An experienced lifeguard knows all too well that a drowning victim can be very dangerous while they still have strength and are thrashing in the deep waters.  If you get to close, even though you are trying to save them, they will pull even the strongest swimmer under and jeopardize the rescue... even drowning the one who came to save them.  So the wise lifeguard will keep safe distance and wait for the victim to wear out and give up... THEN they can come close, put their arms around the victim and pull them to dry ground and save their life. 

Dear Christian,
Do you realize we do that very same thing with God as we're going through our storms and struggles...  We thrash, we splash, we grasp for anything we think will help us, the whole while we're choking on the waves that keep splashing over us as we make every attempt to SAVE OURSELVES.  And we're thinking the whole time... "Why isn't God saving me from this?"

Jesus is our lifeguard...our Savior.  And, NO! You cannot overwhelm Jesus with all your struggles and thrashing... He can handle and save you from ANY storm or mess you're in.  BUT, He does want you to learn to trust HIM rather than trusting your own skills and strength... so He allows you to do your best to save yourself first, before he shows you what HE wants to do in your life.

So... Isn't it time we stop thrashing and struggling in fear of the troubles we're drowning in and GIVE UP the struggle?  You CANNOT save yourself! How much of your strength do you have left?  Stop fighting and fall into the arms of Jesus... only He can deliver you from the raging waves engulfing you.  When you reach the end of your strength, your Savior is waiting to pull you free and set you on solid ground.

Let the love of Jesus be your strength... let the forgiveness of the Father be your deliverance... let the grace and mercy of the cross be your worth.  You no longer need fear your weaknesses. You no longer need to loathe your failures.  You no longer need to fret upon your worthlessness...  YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD!   The Lord is your Stronghold!

My soul will rest in the embrace of my Savior...
