My sense of the Lincoln project is that they're a direct descendant of the Willy Horton/Swiftboat crowd. And in this special circumstance they were so embarrassed by the bullhorn of plutocratic bile coming from(you know who) that they had to act to protect their privileges. I'm sure if a candidate with a Reagan-esque skill with the dog whistle emerges, they'll all run home.
