Matthew Tkachuk Had Another Run In With Nico Hischier...Dirty Play?; Devils Lost to The Panthers 2-1

The New Jersey Devils challenged the reigning Stanley Cup champions once again. Unfortunately, they lost to the Florida Panthers 2-1 in a shootout. It's such a shame that a great battle came down to a shootout. At one point, Matthew Tkachuk laid a big hit on Nico Hischier. Those two have a history dating back to the 2022-23 season.

Obviously we all want more shots to go in, but the Devils are going through some important learning opportunities here. They've proven they can lock it down and drag games into OT, which will definitely be a skill they will need at least once - if not many games - during the playoffs.

Trey -- can you discuss why the Devils signed Luke Hughes at end of 2022-2023 and burned a year of his ELC? This seemed like an incredibly poor strategic decision to trade a full year under ELC dollars for 5 games. Now we will need to sign him at a far higher rate for next season instead of having a lot more cap space to work with.

I think Tkachuk has beef with every player in the league that’s not a Panther! I absolutely hate him but know that if he was a Devil somehow then I’d absolutely love him. Respect.

I don't disagree with anybody's feelings or thoughts about the SO. I just think without retooling the schedule the SO is a quick end to games in the regular season. Let's say it's a 7pm start that then goes for 5 ot rounds. What time does that game run until? What if the team has a second game the next day? What if they have to travel for it? How long should the regular schedule run until to give the players adequate time to wind down their bodies?
