You’re such a big inspiration! After watching you last summer I immediately bought the entire polychromos set, best purchase of my life! Definitely going to try out arches after this

This really makes me want to try layering.  The way you explained it and showed it really got the point across in the beginning.   To date I've only done a few artworks in color but I think that utilizing layers will result with me being more happy with the results.

Yes to using a screen for your reference! I use my iPad Pro. It's got a nice big screen. Also to Arches. Their paper is just the best. I don't know what they do to it, but I've never found one that compares. The hot press works great with pen and ink too.

I learn a lot from you Lisa, for example, the abstract shapes, very good advice! When I painting or drawing, I remember your words and I've also learned to use the magenta's, violet, burgundy, indigo to give depth. I love that, and the drawing looks very good!! And of course, if I need to use black, then I use it. I Love your channel, always! Thanks!

so glad you mentioned the computer monitor vs printing image debacle. Until very recently, like you I printed out all my ref pics in A4 glossy paper and had Canon Inks and Officeworks laughing all the way to the bank. I too was fiddling in PS to try and get the image right. And then last month I commenced a pic from a photo but when I opened it up onscreen the difference was so great that I decided, right, had enough, how bout I just turn my laptop around and paint directly? Much happier doing this, and also zooming, flipping the image, colour checking. I've still got folders full of A4 glossy prints ready to be painted, but think instead I'll use them as inspiration or re-file them as "painted" (and what I painted it with/on/when) instead. cheers

The great things about buying watercolor by the sheet are the cost savings and cutting the exact sizes you want to work on, and best of all, you can buy Arches bright white which is whiter than the standard color and only comes in sheets.

Thank you for the lesson with the colored pencils. I'm now motivated to use colored pencils again after working with inks for a while.

The last colored pencil piece I did was of a dog. It had lots of little very subtle white areas in its fur and I was stressing out about leaving some of the white of the paper showing for those areas. Having the touch up texture fixative would've made that process a lot easier.

i usually don't comment :) the light in this vid, on some screens at least, is a lot and makes it hard to look at. Like it's over exposed and veeeery bright on one side haha

Great video Lisa! 😁 The flower & bee came out beautifully. You know we have that pencil sharpener and have the same issue.😆 Hubby ended up taking it out if his sketching bag.

I have really fallen in love with the arches hot press paper. And luckily for me it is really easily available at my local art shop, which is super convenient since I usually have to order most other papers online. I also like that it is a little warmer in colour than some other stark white papers... it's just a little
Easier on my eyes, although that does mean it's not perfect for every project

I have watched like 20 different videos trying to figure out what paper I want to buy and you are the first person to explain the actual difference between hot and cold pressed and WHY hot is better for colored pencils... So THANK YOU SO MUCH for that. Most of the videos just list different papers and which ones they liked/didnt like but not why.. I think ive settled on the Strathmore toned tan for now just because I really like the look of prismas on that paper(prismas are the only good pencils I have right now.. Ive started saving up to buy some good watercolor pencils/paints next so ive also been watching videos trying to figure out which ones would be best for me. I dont have a lot of money to spend on something just to not like what I bought so I try to do as much research as I can before I take the plunge lol
