What does Net Zero emissions actually mean?

To stop climate change the world needs to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions. But what does this actually mean? And can we trust the countries and companies who are announcing their net zero carbon targets.

7.8 billion people . How good at math is anyone thinking 7 billion humans can emit even half of what we emit now? Logistically challenged or thinking in a fantasy realm. A few of the smartest people and computer models have already calculated. scenarios. Oil got us to 7 billion and to get rid of half of oil use, the poor will suffer extremely. Its a very complicated project.

Okay... so you put a question as the title to the video. However, you fail to answer that same question. I do agree with you when you mention green-washing, especially when it comes to fossil fuel companies, but how do you propose that the present economy moves to a green economy in a short time-frame? Even if that happened today, and all fossil fuel gas emissions would just stop, the inertia in the climate system would mean that global warming would still occur for approximately 100 years.
I've noticed that pessimism dominates over optimism when it comes to discussing scalable social solutions to this global issue. This issue is global but it was generated by accumulation of local actions, and it will be appropriate local leadership approaches, according to local circumstances, that will mitigate the problem overall.

to get 0 zero you would need to eliminate all sources and forms of “FIRE” just saying all coal, petrol gasoline gas stoves planes ect...

Good vid mate. Although think you are wrong about BP. Yes the commodity they're selling is bad for the climate, but they shouldn't be judged on that. Their net zero plan will address how they run as an organisation, rather than those who they sell the fuel too. It's like blaming the gun factory for a shooting.

Net Zero is not enough. The climate needs Net Negative ---- in other words, return of CO2 to natural storage (trees, wetlands, soil, etc) +/- engineered storage.
