Cleavers are in the same family as the coffee plant. Their seeds can be roasted on their own and ground up to make a coffee substitute with caffeine, but in a much less amount.

My children put them in their sandwiches and we also steep them overnight in a jug of cold water to make a refreshing drink! They are good in pesto too 🙂

That's fine if you want something coffee - tasting. But it does mean that you have heated it up and cooked out some medicinal properties.

This is a Spring herb. When it comes up (usually before it flowers) pick a wad of it. Vines, stems, and leaves. Anything above the ground. Once you're home, cut it up into about 4" pieces (so it doesn't wrap around your blender blades) and throw it all in the blender. Add water up to about the top of the plant matter, and blend it up (approx. 30 seconds - 1 minute). Then you can strain out the cleaver pieces & drink the cleaver water.
A Magic Bullet about 3/4 full of cleaver and water nearly to the top makes the perfect portion for 1 glass of Cleaver Water. Or you can put 3 times that amount in a big blender and blend it up, put your Cleaver Water in a jar in the fridge, and sip it throughout the day (or drink 3 glasses separately).

Cleavers are great for clearing out and moving your Lymph System. This is one of the reasons why it works so well as an anti-inflammatory. It's the kind of thing that you want to do in the Spring, 1st thing when they come up to start to detoxify your body from the Winter.

I had a friend whose lymph glands had clogged and swollen up and her face and chin and neck were swollen up like Elephant Man. Thankfully, it was in the Spring when this was around, so I picked a big a wad of it and blended it up for her. She drank 3 glasses of it a day. 3 glasses the 1st day and the swelling had visibly diminished. By the 2nd glass of the 2nd day - her swelling had gone down to next to nothing.

This plant has a lot of medicinal benefits from being a diuretic to helping with inflammation.

That was great! I hate those things, they are always a garden invader. Now, they are potentially useful! I love that.

I always called them sticky willy growing up and never thought to use them like this. I imagine its taste is similar to roasted chicory root. Ill have to try this for sure.

I never thought of drying them. I just wash them and pour hot water over them for tea. I’m going to try your way.

Cleavers are thought to flush out toxins and is anti inflammatory.
Many years ago I'm sure I also read that it can deal with psoriasis, check it out.
The dosage you created might be a bit heavy though with the correct dosage for tea, 3 or more cups per day should be ok👍

I make them into pesto with mustard garlic, walnuts, Parmesan cheese and olive oil.

Nettles are brilliant for tea and stew with an egg on top. You should try.

It’s much easier to make an infusion. Blend with distilled water & set in fridge overnight, I add colloidal silver for added benefit& keeps it fresh longer & usually do a large amount & drink some daily & give to my dog for his swollen lymph’s, works wonders! I don’t strain either, I enjoy the fresh green taste. Add chickweed for additional benefits’

Goose grass and bedstraw are names of old.
Never have tried this, but it's everywhere out here. I have dried goldenrod leaves and made a delicious tea with that plant as well. Drying the flowers and steeping them in with the leaf tea is good for urinary tract health. Using honey is a very healthy natural sweetener.

As a colorblind person, I can say that when you finished roasting the cleavers, they looked exactly the same and it took me 4 times to realize I was colorblind 🤣

Cleavers started my gardening journey 7 or 8 years ago.

I've drank them as a tonic steeped fresh. Liked them that way but, haven't done it this way..yet. Gonna give this a try this evening.
Heard you could roast the seeds(sticky balls🤔) for coffee substitute..

I've heard of people turning taking shots of this like wheatgrass. We also call the plant Catchstraw Bedweed & like to throw it at each other 🌱
