As somebody who doesn’t know a ton about jazz it’s fun to see them playing then they laugh at something and I have no clue what they’re laughing at

Great livestream, I said this in chat but thought it was worthwhile to mention again. It really is a small world, because I had the chance to meet and play with David back when I was in high school (maybe 6-7 years ago now). At the time, my band instructor had introduced him as “a friend, and an incredible jazz saxophonist”. He was certainly incredible, and had some really cool insights for us to implement in our upcoming concert. Super genuine and nice guy, as well. Great improv here, I kept it in the background while I worked for a good half hour or so towards the end before you guys stopped the livestream. Cheers to you both!

Damn, as soon as he starts soloing, it just hits you.

As a person who bought the course nice to get to know who's teaching me.

That was fantastic, you guys should do this more often. Suggestion: Use a foot switch for video switching...Thanks so much for bringing such a high class music discussion to the masses.

@47:55 LMAO, when being a drummer pays off and you felt the simple rhythm before the explanation. It basically just feels like paradiddles with moving pitches on top to add complexity, and I assume it’s played on guitar, but it sounds great with the clarity of piano. (please don’t roast me, if my explanation was awful, I’m here to improve 😂)

Hey Charles, i’d live to see an analysis of the music from Momsters Inc, your videos are extremely entertaining and addictive and would be cool to see something like that,

If master Charles says he knows nothing about music then I am losing my hopes for becoming a music teacher

Loved the uninterrupted part at the beginning, and, well, everything else, as per usual with this channel. Great little teaching points! I'm really considering joining the academy.

Playing bits: 0:07, 26:10/26:48, 1:09:21, 1:20:30, 1:26:52

Please do more of these!! The sessions of improv & playing are my favourite parts, but the bits of teaching are also really nice!

Wonderful stream! It's great to see both of you collaborate together. The two of you make a great dynamic duo. Even better, it's great to see Dave still teaching you new techniques. Great work!

That was fun (Duet at start)! 🎶 Very reminiscent of Stan Getz / Kenny Barron on the album People Time. One of my favourite Tenor players is Getz. Dave here has a similar sound on that Alto yet great creative flow and his own way of getting around the chords ... SWEET🔥!!! Love the camera switching on the trading and keeping up the wonderful improv.

There's an episode of Star Trek TNG where Picard plays Classical music on flute reading the notation and another musician teaches him how to improvise. I'm sure it tied into the bigger story in that episode, but it was an interesting show to watch as a musician. If you listen to Chick Corea and Return To Forever, you will hear tons of Classical imorovisation. Thanks for this video. It's nice to hear the two of you comping each other. I miss live music. Boo Covid. Kudos to you

The discussion at 56:00 is interesting. I see a similar thing happen when Rob Scallon does his videos on other instruments. His world starts with the guitar instead of piano but you can see his brain convert single note instruments into the chords that are intrinsic to his main instrument. That skill enables him to make music out of just about anything.

If you ever get the chance, review halo ODSTs soundtrack, it’s so unique and definitely should be looked at by you

Instead of both of you sitting off center, you got a second camera. I respect the dedication

Imagine Charles playing the first few chords of the intro song, he hits a sour note and his professor says, "Nope, that's not it!" The pressure! 🥴😰
