Love his style: smooth, innovative, tonnes of personality, nods to tradition yet adds his own spirit.

Ron's technique reminds me of the great Armando Peraza - excellent tones and superb musicianship without needless flash and speed simply for speeds sake. Excellent!

I had the honor to take a 2 day instructive course and several fantastic conversations with this man! He is an amazing percussionist and an amazing person! Thanks for your support Brother Powell!

My, Ron plays with such delicacy and finesse! You can tell from the moment he started playing the careful command he has over his instruments, never giving more than the drums require. Such careful symbiosis is truly inspiring! And his sense of melody and development is just perfect.

Why is there always someone mentioning some type of competition. In the country of my birth (Cuba) people do not play to be better than anyone else, the tambor is played because we feel this urge so strong since slavery that we have to play, when someone comes towards us while we play, we rather they join us in our celebration of our soul. AfroCubans play from the heart we never put anyone down or out.

The song he's playing is Manteca, written by Cuban conguero Chano Pozo for Dizzy Gilespie's 1949 band. You can hear it on youtube.

He plays from the heart, from his soul. Millions of years of cultural rhythm. Has hardened his hands, and mind.
