oK old post but I am going to give it a why is ilo relevant to the OS you are running. Its a seperate card with its own rom,

PS can you update versions of ilo instead of firmware like from 4 to 5

Hello, Can we assume the ESXi host you updated the iLo for does not boot from the SD on the iLo? That would require a host reboot I believe.
