This was genuinely informative. I've been a cinephile and physical media collector for 30+ years. And in all of that time, I've only known of steelbooks and metalpacks...but apparently I've been blending metalpacks and ironpacks together all of this time. (You learn something new everyday.) Now that I've reevaluated my hard case collection, the favorites of my collection have to be:

STEELBOOK: Alita: Battle Angel (black with smooth beautiful image of Alita's cybernetic arm)
IRONPACK: Akira Best Buy exclusive (blue with iconic embossed image of Kanada walking towards his motorcycle)
METALPACK: Godzilla 2014 (red and black with embossed image of Godzilla's tail and built-in sound effects package)

You are correct to a point. 'Steelbook' is actually the name of a company that produces the metal cases we call...well...Steelbook, The parent company is called Scanavo who originally designed the steelbook as it's known today . so whenever you get an actual steelbook, it comes one particular company (Scanavo) to be called officially a 'Steelbook' I'm from UK so i'm not sure this analogy will work. Cellotape is actually a company, but people think of it and call it the product. So only sticky tape made by the company 'cellotape' is actually and officially Cello tape. Non branded products are actually sticky tape or whatever, but people refer to them as Cellotape. A similar example might be Champagne. It's only officially champagne if it comes from the champagne region of France, otherwise it's actually just sparking wine. But people refer to it as champagne. So although their are some small differences between say an iron pack vs a Steelbook . It's actually because Steelbook is a branded company, and metal cases made outside of that company legally have to be called something else for trademark reasons

I have exactly two MetalPaks of which I'm very proud - _Thelma and Louise_ and _Juno_ . Both very beautiful and I wish I had more.

I only have one metalpak and that's Halloween 3 imported from Germany which I always thought was a steelbook, I think it was even advertise as one when I pre-ordered it.  I later found out it wasn't but that's okay it's still a beautiful looking metalpak.

So what you're saying is... The metal pack is spineless. Might as well not waste my money on those. Lol
