The Norfolk Coast Express - D213 Andania (DBLM Steam)

The Norfolk Coast express, heritage diesel charter, from Manchester Piccadilly to Great Yarmouth and return on Saturday 16th April 2022. Motive power was the preserved English Electric Type 4 (class 40) locomotive D213 Andania - captured on video passing Spalding station on the outward journey and just north of Helpston, home turf for me, on its return.
Timekeeping seemed to be extremely good all day - so it was no surprise that power was eased between Helpston and Lolham, probably to avoid a wait to join the double track main line at Stoke.
How great to see and hear this fine locomotive, probably around fifty years after their introduction as a replacement for steam in the 1960s. I can recall their latter days on the ECML when they deputised for failed Brush Type 4s and Deltics (rare events, of course) and when they hauled Fridays only relief trains to Newcastle - as well as the Manchester to Yarmouth summer Saturday trains.
