What is Falion's Secret? - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

preview_player
Показать описание
In today's convoluted lengthy Skyrim video, we're exploring the mystery behind Morthal's resident conjurer as he exists amidst a strange web of misfortunes. Is Falion hiding something significant, or is he just a quiet mage looking for a quiet life?

Apologies for the length of this one as the topic probably isn't worth that timecode but there just happened to be a lot of straggling details that needed contextualising.

Fallion casually being able to cure Serana and thus having figured out how to straight up say "nah" to Molag Bal is truly a moment of all time

Your graduation from Red Dead mysteries to Skyrim mysteries feels very right and is very much appreciated by this absolute nerd 😊

Skyrim is such an iconic game. These videos have been awakening an itch to play it for like the fourth time

I may or may not have accidentally made another hour long video

I love how the serious and calm tone just gets obliterated when the NPC’s in the clip talk over one another

There's actually a way to keep Hrogar alive when you look for the evidence against Alva.
Gotta break into their cabin when neither Hrogar or Alva are home.

Hey Fizhy, I have a video suggestion for you! How about diving into the confusion surrounding the opening scene of Skyrim, specifically where the Dragonborn crosses the border and gets captured? It’s always been a bit muddled geographically and dialogue-wise. You could explore where the ambush might have taken place on the map, how the cart ride to Helgen fits in (or doesn’t), and the contradictory dialogue between Ralof, Hadvar, and Lokir. It’d be cool to see you break down the inconsistencies and maybe look into fan theories that try to make sense of it all. Would love to see your take on it!

It's worth noting too that Vaermina's realm, Quagmire literally means 'a soft boggy area of land that gives way underfoot.' It's another name for a swamp/bog or marsh like area, just like Morthal's surrounding area.

35:30 another fun thing about going to Morthal with vampirism, if you are a vamp before you do the Hrogar quest, you can discover that Alva is a vamp the very first time you speak to her. She has unique dialogue to the effect of "This town is MY prey interloper. Get lost."

Fallion probably left the College due to the lack of leadership by Aren. It is recorded that they had disagreements over various things.
I trust Fallion more than Aren.

There's definitely Morthal to him than meets the eye. Interestingly, two things relevant here are in other parts of the game.
Sissel in Rorikstead mentions a dream about and old, gray dragon who is nice, which obviously sounds like Paarthurnax, and mentions that Jouanne teaches her magic. So a little girl learning magic and having dreams which appear to be about real things isn't unique in Skyrim.
If you choose the right dialogue and get Serana to seek a cure for vampirism, she'll say she needs to see Falion, meaning she too has the idea that he's capable of it, and she will come back cured, although a bug results in her keeping some vampiric traits. This might be related to the fact that seemingly every innkeeper in Skyrim actually knows that Falion has studied vampires and other undead, so it's clearly something he doesn't try to hide from anyone. All the innkeepers will mention this if you're a vampire and the quest to talk to Falion starts that way.
That being said, I think Falion actually is what he claims to be, just a wizard who while surely aiming to learn more magic just intends to be helpful. Maybe he has a side goal of promoting a more favorable view of magic by teaching it to others freely and according to what he says, using it to protect Morthal from something in the area. It's possible that Kjenstag could even be what concerns him and that he wants to ensure nothing happens because of that place to hurt the locals.

I just found this channel a few days ago, I've been binging its content for several afternoons, and this video drops this morning? Well, I know what I'm doing for the next hour.

Fun Fact: Falion is the Conjuration Master trainer while Phinis is only Expert-level. (while the other 4 magic teachers are all Master-level)

falion is one of those npcs that i really wish they fleshed out the dialog choices for
i dont want to be mean to the guy and the dialog choices are tinted with a bit of sarcasm

It's frustrating how often the end of a lore video is "maybe this character was supposed to be more fleshed out". Why couldn't the developers in the last ten years add some content in that was left on the cutting room floor at the initial release.

Please don’t apologise for an hour video, that makes this YouTube adult so happy 😊

I love how clear and concise your videos are. They cut straight to the evidence and theories. A nice alternative to a 4 hour video on Narfi and his sister

Jesus, I knew Falion had a secret but I didn’t think it took an hour to explain it

Of all cut or unfinished content the stuff in morthal are of the few I wish they finished, I do like that if you calm hroggar and don’t kill him he’ll thank you for freeing him after the quest
