In order for the Batman logo to be projected you need to add two things.
1. A thicker, denser batman logo (probably metal) The light was allowed to slip out with just a paper, totally destroying purpose of it being there.
2. A backdrop to catch the projection. Without something to hold the light on a singular plane you can't really see the separation of light and negative space. Usually in the comics Batman sign was seen on the clouds. It always rains in Gotham so it always cloudy.
