I took me a long time to realize how much I love the Oud and all instruments that are derived from it, like the Maroccean Loutar etc.

WindyGyle1 The Oud is a kind of Lute w/o any frets and it has 11 to 12 strings made out of nylon.

A great tune from two very similar instruments but yet so different. One from ancient arabian lands and one from medieval europe. I love how the ud starts with a very simple ancient middle eastern melody then the lute gradually blends right in to the arabian scale. From what i know from playing the guitar, it was quite different playing other string instruments that can play 1/4 tone notes, where as the guitar is only half tone. There are so many notes a guitar just cannot play unless I bend the string, which is close but playing a scale of notes in 1/4 tone is impossible on a guitar. Is the lute able to play 1/2 and 1/4 notes?

Really good, both of you! Am I to understand that you have recorded - or are in the process of recording - a CD?

Clearly the oud has the upper hand ... but hay remember the lute word is derived from oud ;)
