IIRC, Github was broke. Very few people were paying for the service and the costs of could only be rising as the numbers of users increased.

Gitlab is really great functionally, but its hosting is buckling at certain times of the day. You wait 5 seconds every time you click on something. It makes me die a little bit inside.

BTW the Gitlab logo is officially a raccoon dog. But yeah, it looks like a fox.

And in the coming future when all of us moves to Gitlab they will eventually run out money to host our crappy code and they will be acquired by someone like google or even Microsoft again. So moving from Github to Gitlab makes no sense stating the reason just because Microsoft bought it

Gitlab has some nice features but I think it tries to do a little bit of everything and doesn't do one thing really well... Overall Gitlab is a solid product though.
