In the military we also always carry krazy glue, great for quick stitches.

Yeah this is definitely something a lot of people could benefit from practicing. my mom thought me this when I was younger.
it has come in handy a few times since then
I love that it was in the battlebox.

Thank you very much for adding the close ups because many videos I see are far away and hard to learn with!! Great job loved this

Not too bad for a first time.

Some tips for the furture.
Don't hold the Adsons (tweezers) in you palm, think more pencil style.
Load the need in the needle driver toward the tip and at a 90 degree angle (unless doing deeper wounds: then kick it out away from your hand a bit).
Just turn your wrist to throw your stiches. (gives you more control and better predictability in symmetry)

Great video. You'll get better with time and practice. Knots are a bitch (and getting caught in the needle driver is a problem even for surgeons). I've been a surgical assist for a couple years and I practiced everyday for a year to get my throws down and my knots to cinch correctly.

Hey jeff I used the battle box code on the last video with this is in it. So I bought it. Just got it today and used up one whole suture. I would say I have more medical training than most of the general public ( Wilderness first aid, aci CPR, advanced first aid, aed). Man this thing is fun. Thanks for the coupon code!

Watching you reinforced the notion of practice, practice, practice. I commend you for having the stones to make a demonstration video (clearly you are not a professional surgeon). But your video has motivated me to get some practice time in. Big thanks for the video.

Oh this was cool I saw when you got it. This is good to practice with only if this would be the last saneros if you had to. You would have to get that person to the hospital. I seen it done at someone's home a friend of mine got in a fight with this guy and he needed some stitches over his eye. My friend's father stitched it up for him. If he would have went to the hospital he would have went back to prison he was on parole. He ended up going back to prison just not that week.

Hey, Jeff, something to consider for more practice medium: Pig skin and oranges are sometimes used. You could ask your local butcher for the former (or purchase cuts of meat with the skin on, and some people will use the ham hock before cooking it), and the latter can work, though it does not offer the same resistance and durability as skin.

steri strips work wonders on small cuts (like from a knife) just remember direct pressure to slow the bleeding. But great practice for field medicine. Might be picking this up or a kit similar (more for myself on my own adventures). Being on a search and rescue team some crews in the field may not have a medic or EMT so keeping up with Wilderness First Aid is a very important skill. If you're looking to get more well versed in EMS get basic CPR and First aid, and try to find a class called "stop the bleed" in the fire, rescue, and LEO service its a very highly participated (required class) about life threatening bleeding and tourniquet use.

awesome video Jeff! I had some emergency surgical tools in my B.O.B. gear but never bothered to actually try it out. I just bought my own practice kit so I can learn it like you did! Yes, it looks sloppy, but basic medical skills are important. It could save a life! I also heard that banana peels are good to practice on.
