I had never heard that I should open cabinet doors. It does make sense. Thank you so much.

I once had an outside faucet on my porch freeze and burst I was sleeping, but the sound was so loud my dog started barking and woke me up thankfully I took care of it quickly. Now when it get's super cold I cover and insulate all my outside pipes, and leave all my faucets inside the house(kitchen sink, bathroom sink, bath/shower) both the hot and cold side on a steady stream better to be safe then sorry👍

Could you comment on whether it would be beneficial to drip specifically the hot water, rather than the cold?

I just had a hot water line burst a few days ago. The water was shut off, since we were out of town for a week, but it still burst and made a bit of a mess. But my question is: How does dripping the cold water line prevent the hot water line from freezing?

Thank you very much. Great advise I like how you showed the amount of drip as well. I really don't use heat during the winter. I originated from Massachusetts moved down to Tennessee yes it still gets cold down here I do have electric blankets and I use electric heaters to get the chill out on those cold days (mostly in the morning) if it drops to the teens or less then I'll used a small propane heater. It works like a champ. If I'm going to be not moving at all I'll stick to just one room clean do research exercise what have you. I'll bring the dog in with me. I save my drip water put it through my filter and use that too. One time even my tiny drip still froze it was single digits for days. Never thought about shutting the main off. Question so dripping another sink has NO effect? I think in my case since I freeze out the rest of the house if I want to use my kitchen sink if I don't drip it it should freeze at least the faucet then I'll need a heat gun heater or whatever. Also one time I left a heater in the bathroom on, the room was warm and I could actually turn the knobs but the pipes froze (never dripped the faucet). Thank you very much again for your quick simple and right to the point video! 😆

At or below what temperature should we open the cabinets/drip faucets?

Good effort, but there is a lot missing from this video. Heat is missing from this video. Preventing pipes from freezing starts with heat. If you can't heat your home your pipes are going freeze and burst if you're not running your water enough or emptying your pipes. When you heat your living spaces, you're also heating up your walls and ceilings. This heat can prevent your pipes from freezing if it is enough to overcome the cold temperature outside. Also, left out of the video is when you turn off your water, you have to drain your pipes of water. I made a lot of other comments to others for this video that you and others might find helpful.

In MN we have periods of freezing weather- below 32 F and then we have periods of below 0 F. I personally, would not trust the drip method during some of the extreme cold periods we experience where it is flirting with temperatures below zero, I would go with the slow steady stream method in these situations. I would only trust the drip method suggested in this video for when the weather is higher up and closer to the freezing range of 32 F.

Water freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit or 0 degrees Celsius. When temperatures are start getting down to these temperatures its best you start doing what's in this video. Also wind causes freezing quicker.

When a faucet won’t drip; it’s either on or off. Stand there and play with the handle till it drops?

At 1:01, you say if you lose power for more than 24 hours you should turn the water off at your main shut off valve BUT SHOULDN'T YOU TELL PEOPLE TO THEN DRAIN THE LINES?

IF THEY JUST SHUT OFF THEIR DRIPPING TAPS, AND THEN SHUT OFF THE MAIN, THEN THEY COULD END UP BURSTING THEIR PIPES AS THEY FREEZE?!?

By not thoroughly draining what water is in there, you have a full line and when that freezes and expands with no where to go, those lines will split, right???
