After forming in the mid-Sixties, the Techniques repeatedly proved themselves to be one of the most popular and influential vocal groups in the history of Jamaican music, recording a formidable number of hit singles, many of which are now rightly regarded as classics.

The height of their success occurred during the ska and rock steady years, when, led by such luminaries as of Slim Smith, Pat Kelly and Bruce Ruffin, they scored a succession of major hits for Duke Reid’s legendary Treasure Isle Records.

Arguably their greatest triumph during this period was their sublime interpretation of Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions' 1963 r&b hit, 'Minstrel And Queen', which rates as one of the finest recordings of the rock steady era.

Do people just hear this song??! Or really really LISTEN to it?! What a brilliant piece of work by Curtis Mayfield…and stupendous vocals, harmonies, arrangement and delivery by the Techniques.
Curtis Mayfield admits to her royal highness, the Queen that he’s not of her society, he’s not a king, just a ministers with just his song alone. Secretly he loves her but know that it’s totally impossible to start a relationship or even say it to her royal highness…but when he came in her court and sang to her he could almost see love in her eyes. Then in his song, he asked her is it really true or even the slightest possibility that she might have feelings for him, a lowly minstrel !!!!
