Woodturning - In this video I use some red oak that's well past its prime combined with some deep purple tinted resin to make a very interesting vase. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it done this week but it gives my subscribers a very unique way to interact with me and tell me how to finish the top. Thanks for watching!

I love your channel me and my wife have watched everyone of your videos to the end. Just a lesson I learned about wearing gloves. I was a machinist for a long time. As well as wood turning. I have seen 3 people loose arms because of gloves. The gloves get even slightly grabbed can suck your hands into the tooling and cause severe injuries. I machined wood, steel, carbon, graphite, both mill and lathe. It is a matter of personal choice. But that choose can be costly. I like to make sure everyone knows what can happen. Thank you for sharing. Designer epoxy.

To begin with a piece of wood that looked like that compared to what you created in the end is a miracle! Awesome work, you made another masterpiece! So cool!!

Jim, I really appreciate your professionalism, work ethic, ingenuity and talent.

Side note, I would leave the resin on top.

TURN ON!

Resin on the top. Yes, red oak would benefit from being stabilized before casting. Designer Epoxy. Great project Jim.

This is so very cool with the direction of the limbs. And, the purple is AWESOME!! I would have voted for to keep the resin. But, it will be beautiful either way you choose.

Jim,
I’d say no resin. The design inside the cross branches look pretty cool as well. I’m glad the “Designer Epoxy” didn’t crack👍

This colour is just stunning with the oak! I would sag, keep the resin. I will look part two next; whatever you do will be awesome, I know it!

Seriously wish I would have discovered your channel years back. My son and I could have watched with my father in Joshua Tree before he had passed. He also was a wood worker. Awesome work and creativity!

Jim - I’ve had similar problems with entrapped air when I pour the resin on top of a branch inlay and then count on the air bubbles working their way out through the layer of epoxy. I’ve pretty much eliminated this problem by using a pipette (mini turkey baster) to squeeze the epoxy in at the bottom of the piece through one of the gaps between the branches. This effectively pushes the air out as the resin is squeezed in at the bottom. This also works well to fill deep holes like one you stuck your screwdriver into.

Absolutely love your work, and the format of your channel Jim. Personally I've just got too much OCD for the resin rim.... if it were me, and I already knew I was grinding anyway, I'd just take I down to the wood. It keeps the piece primarily about the wood, and the resin as an extraordinary accent... it conceals the fact that it was a casting too, leaves you wondering if it were just an epic inlay. But I differ to the judgement of the master!

Love the color of the resin. I say have the resin on the top, you can take it off later if you end up not liking it. My vote, resin top.

Designer Epoxy.

I would love to see some resin on top.. it is unique piece and shape, so don’t think uniformity is needed. Uniqueness wins the turn !

I love when you leave the unexpected challenges in your videos. There is so much more to your craft than slapping things together. I think it really shows the mastery of tool and materials to make your art.

Gorgeous wood…love the red oak! The purple resin is stunning too! I really like how the resin highlights the cracks in the branches.
