80's Chorus Pedals: Boss CE-2 VS Arion SCH-Z

Here is a comparison of 2 classic chorus pedals of the 80s. It was filmed on a stinking hot summer's day in Sydney (my last video filmed there). And yes I am aware that the LED on the old CE-2 isn't working.

My first chorus pedal was the Arion in 1979 or 80. It did a good Leslie sound. I liked it better than my CE-2. 👍😁👍

- *Boss* CE2 sounds warmer and vintage.
- *Arion* SCH-1sounds more organic and clearer.
Both sound different and both are great.
Another great vintage chorus pedal (also from 80s) is the *Yamaha* DSC-20M.

The Arion (to me) sounds like it goes into Univibe territory. Chorus/Flanger/Vibe are 3 sides of the same coin. At some points in your demo, the Arion has a sort of Univibe character to it. Very different from the Boss, which stays a bit more true to a "classic" Chorus Tone whatever that means. Of course, the Boss is the epitome of a Chorus pedal since they kinda invented it. : ) Both pedals are Great!

Both are lovely chorus pedals. It is all up to what you prefer. Neither is better than the other. Both are good

On the Arion, try turning down the width when you turn up the speed. Set both controls approx 2 o'clock and you have a really nice whirly speaker thing goin on.

Hello from a fellow Sydneysider.
I have that exact same model Strat! Just scored a MIJ CE-2 (green label) but after hearing Brian Wampler's demo of his Arion, I'm wondering if the latter isn't a better option for stereo or wet/dry (if I can use two amps, I will, depends on the situation).
Wanna sell your Arion :P

I know you were using quarter turns to show examples but say if you had the boss one set at 12 oclock then the arion one set at May be 10-11 o'clock wouldn't the sounds match better?

Both are nice. It's all personal preference ( however ) I will take my Free the Tone Tri Avatar Chorus over Any Chorus Pedal. It Doesn't get that seasick LFO Wobble - just Thick Shimmering Chorus. Very Alex Lifeson Sounding. Other Fantastic Chorus Pedals that I would recommend: Tortuga Martini, Analogman Bi-Chorus, and the Shiva Little Wave (for that 80's Rack Chorus Tones). Enjoyed the Demo.

I had an Arion chorus in 1980 (I’m 60 today-brutal!). The Arion did extreme chorus…it detuned, and turned up full it sounds like a Leslie. Are the new ones like that? I have a CE-2, but I’m looking for something wild. Cheers mate. 👍
