The interviewer deserved it. He knew that RDJ didn't feel comfortable answering the questions and kept on asking, which was really rude.

RDJ has done plenty of interviews where he has talked about his past, his drug use, his incarceration. He is an open book and it has all been said already. He's not defensive or trying to forget, he has just moved on and everyone else should, too. You don't bring up an actor's troubled past at a press junket for a movie unless the film is biographical. In this case it was totally inappropriate.

RDJ's breathing becomes labored, his eyes redden. Obvious social cues that he was EXTREMELY uncomfortable.

That wasn't an interview, that was an interrogation, which the interviewer has no rights to do. He is just trying to start a whole drama around RDJ's past and see how it backfires!

It sucks because you can see his eyes getting red and wattery. You've screwed up when you make Tony Stark cry.

I'm just reading the post and cannot watch the interview I have way too much respect for rdj, the man wants to forget about a past he regrets and has paid for. He has not only bounced back but done it with vengeance and carisma. No one should ever do that unless this topic was agreed to from the beginning.

Robert looked really far out as the interviewer asked more questions, his breathing got faster and he even jumped at a word. It was pretty obvious that he didn't want to talk about his past, and he attempted to poke fun at the interviewer about his foot. it was really unfair on RDJ and I think everyone should respect him for walking out as calmly as he tried to, because I would have laid it thick on that rude interviewer.

RDJ is a professional and I think he handled that pretty well. There's a time to learn about one's past and a time to discuss a film/his profession. That guy was out of line and did not show any empathy for how RDJ was feeling. I would have left myself.

I don't blame Robert one bit, that guy had NO right to be asking those questions, the junket is to promote the movie, not to write a bio on Robert being in jail or doing drugs, leave the man alone.

I used to have a drug problem due to many things, an abusive mother and father being one of the things, now don't get me wrong I love my parents unconditionally, but the drug addict in me is dead, and it's a part of my life I'd prefer never to revisit, yet my parents bring it up out of nowhere every now and again, and it can be hurtful, so I fully understand why Robert walked away. I don't normally defend celebrities, in fact I hate most of them, but I fully support Robert on walking away, sometimes it's better to walk away from people that do nothing but drag you down.

I think I would've walked out too. Robert's former drug habit has been raked over the coals enough.

That interviewer overstepped his boundaries.. Its not his place to talk about the past that RDJ has tried so hard to overcome. He's earned my respect. Out of all of the actors I have seen, RDJ is one of my favorites and in my eyes, is one of the most respected.
I commend RDJ for walking out, I only wish it was sooner rather than at the end of the interview.

If you watch the popular 7min clip of this interview, right at the end of it, the guy in the white shirt sums up the whole situation with a face that is absolutely PRICELESS. It's probably the best unspoken conclusion to anything I have ever seen, and it's only about half a second long. Worth checking out for that half second alone.

i think its good that he walked out i mean he has done so much and come so far reflecting back on his past was obviously uncalled for and unacceptable so i have a huge respect for RDJ

Martin Bashir, the interviewer is cancer to journalism. He angered RDJ, Tarantino, tricked Princess Diana and Michael Jackson, and even ruined the life of pop singer by making the documentary Living with Michael. I hate Bashir, a disgrace to honest journalism.

I'm a very attentive person so ya. What I noticed is that his smile changed to a straight face, his eyes turned serious and very jumpy, his breathing changed. So all around you could tell he was very un comfortable with this subject

Let's take a moment to appreciate how Robert Downey was once in his lowest point but he managed to turn his life upside down and become one of the most paid and respected actors in the world.

That interviewer is sad about his own life or something that he gets pleasure out of making others uncomfortable for no reason other than to bring people down with him. Those kinds of people are everywhere, and you have to be prepared for them.
