In this video we take a quick look at integrating Home Security with your Smart Home.

The first question you need to ask your self is WHY you want to integrate your Security and Smart Home?

Most Clients discover they prefer the Security Systems native app to the Smart Home System.

So the main reason to integrate Security with Smart Home is for the scenes, like a good bye scene that locks the doors and arms the security when you're leaving the home.

If you like that, there's value to it and you should integrate. If you don't care about that, then don't worry about integrating use a stand alone system.

DSC with Control4 works great. Occupancy detection using motion or door sensors along with time of day variables to create automated lighting scenes like nighttime safe pathway lighting is something I'd recommend.
Or maybe upon the event of a fire alarm, trigger a 'all on' lighting scene to make a safe exit.
Or how about a burglary alarm event, flash the outdoor lights to alert neighbors, guide authorities to the scene or deter the criminals.
I think not integrating the alarm is a missed opportunity.

Pulling your security system such as DSC into Control4 brings a whole bunch of sensors into the Control4 system, these sensors then open up an amazing level of integration that DIY smart home products can't accomplish.

I tell ya, I have Simplisafe and Home Assistant, I have this integrated and automated to set at a specific time each night. It works flawlessly and I do not have to worry about remembering to set it which I suck at doing. Additionally in the same scene it turns off all of the lights, locks the front door if it is not, and turns off the TV, we love it. I have it set late enough that this is never going to interfere with our schedules (we go to bed like we are 80, haha)
