helloooo long time no see LOL

this is my finals for this term! 20 second animation with an audio of my choosing. I found this neat mashup of Plagues from Prince of Egypt and El Tango de Roxanne from Moulin Rouge and it's always been a wish of mine to animate Achilles and hector's duel with it so! yeah

took some liberties with design and narrative because while ancient armor is Lovely I would die if I tried animating it I think haha. also Athena technically retrieves achilles' spear for him but that'd be hard to cram into the video so I just had hector's spear get stuck in the shield

but yeah! I'm pretty proud of this one :D

ASKDNSLDKA SUPER INSANE AND NOT NORMAL OVER THIS. The walls of Troy look so freaking cool back there. And Hector's wife having to witness his death, god... The beats of their clash, and I just love how locked in with a slight bit of insanity Achilles has. His blonde and blue is perfect.

In the original myth Achilles did not have the blessing of the river Styx to make him invincible. He could have died as easily as Hector here. Hence the armor.

It was only in later renditions of the myth did he get his invincibility which I think cheapens his accomplishments.

It was his rage that made him immortal.

Once the object of his rage was destroyed and his Kleos secured only then did he die.

Just!! The dead stare of Achilles, who only seeks revenge, not peace, for he knows that killing Hector won't bring back Patrocholus, nor make his loss hurt less. The tears of blood. The absolute POWER behind such a clean, precise strike. I love this, this cold rage, bc at that point rage turns from hot to freezing, so cold it burns again, and that cold rage where you've long stopped caring is so perfectly captured here!!

I was vibing to Plagues then Bam it was Roxanne.
What's interesting is the impact of color scheme on the feeling of the animation. Something about the unnatural color scheme (and if I'm not mistaken the lower frame rate) makes it feel viscerally gory. The richness of the colours in this one make it feel like it's straight from the epic.
Love the bits of hair that Achilles loses and how mad he looks about it. The flex of the spears is also so satisfying. I love how the their dialated pupils convey such different things. Achilles is laser (lazer?) focused and borderline inhuman, and his eyes show that. Hector is on the adrenaline high of his life, and somehow the tiny pupils show how much more he feels everything. The way Achilles stands up feels so bestial. Also the foreground moving in the begining and the painterly walls and Hector's fall and the way Andromache twists??
Definately one to watch frame by frame later.

ITS DONE!! CONGRATULATIONS ON THIS ACTUALLY BEAUTIFUL PIECE! The flowing movements are just so *chefs kiss* and the colours are beautiful. The fight is clear and well choreographed and I admire you for the amount of effort this must have taken🎉🎉

I didn't realize the first time I watched it that Achilles stabbed Hector with his own spear, that makes it more brutal
