Takashi Shirogane | Survivor

It's been more than half a year since VLD ended, but I finally managed to vid one of my favourite characters of all time! He means so much to me and regardless of what the showrunners wanted, his drive to survive anything thrown his way, including the multiple attempts by the showrunners to kill him, will always inspire me.

I feel like I need to answer some questions in order to fully explain this video.

1. I don't acknowledge seasons 3-8. They were terrible and inconsistent with what the show set up as its premise. The only scenes I claim from those seasons are the Shallura ones. In my opinion, Shiro's true arc ended in season 2 and the only reason I included two season 6 scenes was that I didn't think it was fitting to end a video about him being a survivor with him dying.
2. I still ship Shallura. I headcanon Shiro as bi and I don't mind his endgame, but I always thought Shiro deserved to get an epic love story on screen and Shallura had been set up as that love story in the first two seasons. We didn't see his love story with Curtis, so I will never be able to really ship that.
3. I still plan on making a few more VLD vids. I really wanna vid Shallura one more time, as well as Blackashi. I'm also considering an Allura vid but that would mean I'd have to include s3-8 and I really don't want to do that.

And lastly, this video's dedications. Firstly, I wanna dedicate this to Sara and Gin. They love Shiro as much as I do and I'm forever grateful I have the both of you to fangirl over him with and to occasionally rant about his arc with. You are the best and I love you both so much!

This video is also for all the true Shiro fans out there, who know exactly where this show went wrong and just how much they did Shiro dirty (along with pretty much all the other characters). Your meta and rants helped me process the huge disappointment that were the final two seasons of this show, and I'm so grateful that you are all still out there keeping Shiro alive.

Everyone else in the comments is probably saying this same thing, but I love Shiro *so, so GOD DAMN MUCH.* He had already seen and done and lived through so many terrible things before Voltron. The other paladins had no trauma to that scale. And as leader of the paladins and the head of Voltron, he was always so amazing and sweet even after everything that happened to him. He was so headstrong. I feel like you said, the screenwriters did him no justice. He was always the best paladin, and my favorite Space Dad.

And I completely agree with your explanations. That's exactly how I feel about all of it, too. It's a huge shame that they threw away a character who was so compelling. It just boggles my mind how the show runners have such a great character like Shiro and they don't see it that way--they just saw him as expendable and didn't see how valuable he was to the entire series (as well as Allura, on that note). It leaves such a bad taste in my mouth knowing that they completely missed the point of his character and his growth. Not to mention, it's even worse how fans of the show don't see the problem. :/

But nonetheless, he's still so inspiring and I'll always cherish his character from the first two seasons. <3

Well I'll be damned if anyone but Shiro is the perfect match for this song -- and if anyone could make me remember why exactly I had fallen in love with this show in the first place before it all fell apart, well, that person just had to be you and your dead-on precise syncronization of beats, clips and dialogue. Excellent job! I, personally, loved the show up until the end of season 6. I found the Earth story arc to be a bit dull, and I especially hated how they seemed to completely sideline Shiro. That, and I hated the design of his new floating super arm. Shiro was and is my favorite character, so it’s nice to see such a fitting tribute.
