Fantastic video!! Thanks a ton for this! :)
My only critique would be to flash to a map showing the location every time a location change occurs, just to make it a bit more immediately obvious!

That "underground river" is fascinating. Youd never know it's there, yet it looks really interesting! A great video Paul.

What a superb video.
As a local Merseyrail user and having done videos myself about the network, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I remember starting as a Junior Railman in 1966 at Hamilton sq, went on to train as a Signalman in 1968 worked every Signalbox from New Brighton to West Kirkby and eventually James Street Power Signalbox and everything in between as a regular, and Relief Signalman,
I trained and worked 23 signalboxs,
There was a Cabin on the river bed at james Street and another one at liverpool low level before the loop line,
Remember the Loop line being built, Very interesting video brought back lots of memories for me it was my life for nearly 30 years 😀
I remember one Christmas eve i was the last one on duty at James S P B and i walked through the tunnel from James St to Birkenhead Central, to get home , with no trains running the tunnels used to get quite stuffy, warm in there .

Really interesting video, as a previous London dweller, and daily user of the underground and tube, it's really interesting to learn about Merseyrail and it's been an eye opener travelling on the Northern and Wirral lines - it's as if I'm back on the tube network in London, lovely rolling stock, but much mercifully, much more relaxed travel and less busy stations.

Many thanks for another of your very informative video showing things which are not visible to myself and other travellers when riding on the trains

This is an excellent video. I had heard about water ingress into the tunnels but I never realised how severe it was. Also, I was not aware of planned and started but never completed extensions. I enjoyed the content and its presentation. It has been a very long time since I have travelled on the system, but I now know a lot more about it. Thank you👍

excellent video and i think your point on the disappointment of the lack of an edge hill spur is a very good one. I recall a while ago I contacted steve rotheram to pose some suggestions about ever continuing it or utilising the Wapping tunnels etc postulating that some of the funding for the development could be funnelled into L central as it is quickly becoming uncomfortably crowded. This was back when there was the remotest of possibilities of HS2 ever reaching liverpool and i think my idea was that the high speed line could come up behind the city and enter at edge hill and then travel under to central (potentially sharing the tunnel with a low speed commuter line). This would obviously have required a major redesign of central to accommodate larger and more platforms but one can hope. I dont really know why i bothered to type all that but I think its an interesting idea to mull over so have at it. Great vid

Thats a very good video, I love to see a video about how they could extend the network with them half finished tunnels and you have sparked an idea about liverpool central platforms 3 and 4, I loved to see a video about that. ❤

Loving this video!!! I have a weird obsession with underground stuff!!! I love the London Underground, the series on Yesterday is fascinating. But to have all this underground malarkey on our doorstep is amazing!!!

Great video, lots of interesting stuff, but if the panning was slower we'd be able to see a lot more. Keep up the good work!

Fascinating video.

In my fantasy rail map, the Edge Hill Spur is used to create a new regional route, combining the Wrexham-Bidston with City Line to Widnes / Warrington.

Nice video. Makes one wonder what future holds for Merseyrail expansion.

I absolutely love these videos mate … as I kid with my face glued to the windows and my hands shielding the reflected light from the carriage, I would try to scour every inch of the tunnel walls as we went through each part of the tunnels and I guess the first things I noticed was the heading at Birkenhead Park end of the HS section … then one day spotted “something” before we arrive at the old James Street station … I used to pester the staff of the stations to see if they could tell me a y5hing about them but I usually got a weird look (like you see of that little girls Facebook meme with a sort of WTF a expression 😂). Up there if you were t talking about Football people would think you were just posh or a snob 😂😂😂 I guess they still do 😂
Many thanks for sharing the videos and stills they are fascinating. There isn’t a lot of places I guess compared to say the London Underground but down there, there are very few people who would have such an intimate knowledge of all of the lines and features as we do with the Mersey rail.

Fantastic, thanks for posting! I didn't know there were so many abandoned projects for the Central Tunnels, connection to the Docks and Edge Hill etc., please can you cover this at some point, also fascinated to learn how they transferred stock between Wirral and Northern Lines, now i know lol

Ace video MW, I've always wondered what it was like. I used to drink in The Baltic Fleet back in the 70's and the landlord always said there were tunnels underneath.
