Ha David U did not ask but I would combine it with the hive u just had checked that is queen right, I would use newspaper I would use a quen excluder as well because my eyes are bad and I might had missed a queen she could be in there and not laying yet, I would spray the paper with sugar water with honey b healthy I would also cut the paper a bit to help the bees get thue the paper I would come back in 2 weeks and check on the hive and check the top box for a queen again and remove the excluder U did not ask but that is what I would do and have done good video have a great week

Thank you for your video on raising "winter brood/fat bees" and feeding 1 x 1 feed with supplements. I went through 3 hives that did not have any brood, larvae or eggs in mid Sept. Earlier one swarmed late in Aug that I caught. Another had 8 swarm cells and I x-ed 4 of them and it swarmed and I did not catch it/them. Drones were still flying though. The last hive had basically closed down. I was able to buy a mated queen which was shipped one day before a cold snap hit but I was able to make a successful installation. For the other two with no visible eggs etc. I did a newspaper combine and they blended well but were not really thriving but with the swarm I was back to 3 hives. I put on the 1 x 1 feed mix you suggested with supplements and the swarm and other two hives exploded into activity. I think the cold snap frosted some flowers and it temporarily stalled the flow. I think I will try to be prepared for late swarms to capture them and use them to for resupplying lost queens or building nucs to winter over. I have fed 2 x 1 in the past and lost the most hives any way (I get robbed a lot). We've had night in the 30"s with frosts though days in the 60's + and all bees are still pulling in pollen. One of the best fall activity seasons I can remember. Hobby keeper over 20 years. Thanks!

HI David, You mentioned the bees were filling empty brood cells with nectar, yet you also said you would feed this hive to stimulate brood. How does a new beekeeper raw the line between too little feeding and feeding so much the bes just store sugar water? Thank you!

I just found my hive wit empty frames, nectar but no brood and dead bees on the ground so disheartened. Only got this hive in July. It was FULL. We transferred from a Longstroth that was warped and damaged to a homemade long Langstroth. Super thick two by 12s all around in an insulated top as I live at 7000 feet in the mountains. You said you put a robber screen how do I do that? I’m so heartbroken. I do want to save them I’m looking forward to learning what you do
