As a 35 yr recovering addict, who spent over 10yrs in "a zillion detoxes and rehabs", I can say that IMO this is THE most accurate of all the "addiction/recovery" films ever. Not only is Keaton fabulous, but the whole supporting cast is great. BTW, I watched this movie many times in the last rehab I was in and I truly believe it helped me get my act together, one day at a time. It's also really worth a look for those who have addicted loved ones that they have trouble understanding. Thanks to all involved in this great, but very underrated movie !!!

As a former addict myself, i can tell u this movie TRULY showed what drugs and alcohol do to people without overdoing it. Every single thing he did in this film was on point with the way he looked, acted, talked and thought. This was Keatons greatest performance in my opinion

On this, my miraculous 41st yr anniversary of living life clean and sober, I remember this awesome film. Everyone involved in making this movie did an awesome job - it packs a powerful punch. This and the film "28 Days" w/Sandra Bullock are my two fave films on this subject matter. I highly rec both to anyone out there bec if not yourself, we all know someone who has a problem. I'm going to watch both of these movies again this wknd bec it's been yrs and I just know I will love them again!

Living in LA, I got invited to the premier of this movie, (when you give your opinion of it before the release) being in recovery, I thought it was one of my friends calling & playing a joke on me. I remember thinking, I didnt think it wouldn't have an impact on anyone who didn't have someone they knew who was an alcoholic or addict, but today- that- is a rare thing.

This movie portrays exactly why a sponsor usually advises a newcomer not to get into a new romantic relationship during the first year of sobriety. It’s difficult to focus on recovery and self-improvement while also navigating the challenges and distractions of a new relationship (and all the baggage that can go along with it).
