I think they have big eyes for a completely different reason, and not because they are forced into caves, underground, so they are forced into darker places. They probably perceive a very large range of the electromagnetic spectrum, they can see infrared, ultraviolet, gamma, the bioelectric aura around people, and even magnetic fields and lines of force. And this could have been due to their higher-order and more advanced activities, but it is much more likely to be the result of deliberate modification, e.g. DNA editing
