Why did Ruth and Garrett cross the island?

Hi guys. Garrett just made my day with the phrase: "Walking is useless if there is nothing to walk to".

Guys, I have been watching you for a few years now and I just want you to know that even on my bad days (I'm a 100% disabled vet) you always make me smile. Vayan con Dios, mis amigos. Fair winds, following seas and a good Starlink connection! I can't wait until next Thursday.

We sailed our home built gaff cutter from New Zealand to Washington DC in the mid 80's. We had a self tacking staysail, heavy like yours, jib medium weight good for up to Force 7-8 then a flying jib for light airs which was awesome given that the flying jib could also go to windward when working in tandem with the main topsail (lots of drive up high). Having said all that, we had a very lightweight drifter which we used with all other foresails stowed. It was set flying with a snap hook at the tack which allowed us to easily hand furl the sail direct into its bag from behind the main. The drifter was outstanding in very light airs, setting in the lightest of zephyrs. Also great for balancing the boat flat off the wind, we timed a run of 24 miles in two hours off the coast of Queensland in a once-in-a-lifetime perfect breeze straight off the stern, not bad for a 32 footer steel cruising boat! BTW we weren't racing the other boat, a Bermudan rigged sloop whose skipper had dared suggest that gaffers are slow! Love your channel!

That was some picturesque landscape. A wonderful walk! And next time Garret complains about a walk just remind him he might find some wood.

You guys are made of titanium walking across a rocky, cactus coated island, barefoot! Love watching you guys surprise me each time.

Yeah, Garrett, love that big foresail idea. Ravenswing's big-blue is a 2.5 oz nylon fabric "reacher" good for 50-150 degrees apparent wind angle, rolled up on a colligo continuous line furler. Does need a dedicated halyard you can either winch very tight for heading upwind, or slack way off to use a mini-spinnaker. It's been our Sea of Cortez workhorse. I'd lean towards big-shouldered / roachy on this for more light air reaching drive, as opposed to trying to get more upwind speed of a code-zero cut with Red's short mainmast. Mexico wants that reaching power!

As a retired geologist, I find the close-up views of parts of Baja California very interesting.

The trigger fish remind me of Don Knotts in the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet and played Barney on The Andy Griffith Show. :)
Cool.
