It's to negotiate what Putin wants. Trump says Zelinski must resign, give up part of the land of Ukraine and give up all the rare earth minerals. Sounds like a great deal for Trump and Putin. If he resigned and Putin put in a new leader, wouldn't that make Russia in full control of the country?
