Ο Théoden γεννιέται στη Gondor από έναν Rohir πατέρα και μία Númenórean μητέρα. Όσο είναι ακόμα νέος, αποκτά έναν γιο, τον Πρίγκιπα Théodred, και πολύ σύντομα κληρονομεί το θρόνο του Rohan. Ο Βασιλιάς Théoden θα γίνει επίσης πατρική φιγούρα για τον ανιψιό και την ανιψιά του, τον Éomer και την Éowyn!
