What do you guys think about their self-service announcement? and will you be buying parts from Apple?
*This is my opinion and we simply do not know enough to make any conclusive judgments at this time. Only time will tell.

I work as an Apple authorized technician, we recently set up a new workshop and all the equipment required was extremely expensive. As you might know iPhone 12 and 13 are extremely hard to open bevause of their water resistance seal. A tool required to open 12 and 13, the only iPhones that apple mentioned they will offer user end repairs for, costs around 700-800 euro on apple's global service exchange website where they sell parts to AASPs, not mentioning any other parts required, like a repair tray, screwdrivers etc, I can already tell you it won't be a financially viable option and the customer will most likely end up in an apple repair shop anyway. From the looks of it, unless they come up with a cheaper alternative for tools required, it won't be worth it for the end user.

Apple has been ridiculously scammy for decades, like putting proprietary firmware on standard hard drives to make it impossible to do your own upgrade, charging significantly more for the same off-the-shelf upgrades like RAM that you could order elsewhere, and now all this nonsense with their phones. It boggles the mind how people still fall for their gimmicks.

Apple be like: Our Iphone 13 is 2000$
Also Apple be like: Screen for our Iphone 13 is 1999$

I really enjoyed fixing iPhones from up till the iPhone 6. Then I went from an iPhone 6 to an 11 and now I’m scared to break anything. Even if I buy a new screen I think I wouldn’t be able to fix this thing on my own with the tools I have.

Accurate title to a well explained video. Wait for the 350 usd screen replacement 450 usd camera replacement and 250 usd speaker replacement parts genuinely Apple, and kit to use 150 usd. Following on that you lose apple care and no warranty on parts that don't work out of the box. That's how apple screws you.

Starting off your video with a very strong statement. I respect that. let's see where this goes.

What I'm surprised is reading some comments saying that this is Apple "being lazy", "just pay Apple care", "this is taking jobs away from Apple technicians" and the crown jewel comment, "if you can't afford to get your phone fixed, don't buy and iPhone".

Like, there's really people out so out of touch, is baffling.

My guess is that their parts will never be competitive against salvaged or 3rd party parts of the same (or better in some cases) quality, but by doing this they will reduce serialization to make this project work, at least before they lock them up again in the future. This is the best we can hope for, from a company which knows nothing but money.

I thought apple was gonna get people opening their phones as soon as I saw the A15 Bionic sticker on the release of the 13 lineup, Apple has people thinking it will be cheaper and better for themselves although its just another money scam because a lot of people are going to further damage their devices. Apple seems to think they are the only ones that can repair iPhones I don't think they consider that people are going to go to 3rd part repair shops. Thanks for the info PRG and ill see you in the next one mate.

If they are selling tools and manuals etc to the public, then surely a third party shop could just buy it as an “individual”, to avoid becoming part of the Apple repair program.

I love when people equate "good, quality" parts, when that part literally died and sent the customer looking for a replacement

Since Apple will probably want to control the number of parts being sold to a customer and probably only offer some of The general Parts of the phone and not all. I believe it is going to be a subscription thing.

Ooohhh. Thats why they made the A15 Bionic sticker pretty on the iPhone 13 series. They knew people were going to open them long before we did.

How the new qianli screwdrivers going? I got some and they are way too small for me :(
Also I dont think apple will release programming tools. They probably will be programming the screens before they get sent out
